BOULDER CITY, Nevada -- Midwestern State delivered a strong performance against an elite field through the opening two rounds of the NCAA Division II National Preview Monday afternoon at the Boulder City Golf Club.

The Mustangs combined to card six par-or-better scores and posted par-or-better team scores in each round with a 285 and 282 for a 9-under aggregate of 567.

"That's really good golf for us, but you look at the field and you see how great women's golf has got," MSU coach Jeff Ray said. "We're playing well and we're right in the middle of it."

The Mustangs stand sixth behind California State-San Marcos (549/-27), Dallas Baptist (556/-20), Missouri-St. Louis (562/-14), St. Mary's (562/-14), and UT Tyler (565/-11).

"I was very impressed with the girls. They competed hard," Ray said. "The course was set up where it is a lot of fun. There are seven holes that are slight dog legs, which allows you to cut yardage off of those holes. It gives you some options depending on how far you can drive it. It is definitely a first-shot golf course."

Junior Alli Reily carded a pair of par-or-better scores, following a 68 in the opening round with a 72 in the second for a 4-under total of 140 to tie for 15th.

Meanwhile, senior Brecklyn Flanagan (73-70) and freshman Mary Kerr (69-74) tied for 21st with matching 1-under totals of 143.

Junior Kodi Nolen logged scores of 75 and 70 for a 1-over total of 145, while senior Makenna Henry fought back after a tough opening nine holes to deliver scores of 79 and 70 to tie for 51st with a 5-over 149.

Sophomore Madison Wert (83-81) tied for 74th with a 20-over total of 164, competing as an individual medalist only.

UT Tyler junior Arnie Taguines tops the individual leader board, after firing scores of 70 and 64 for a 10-under 134. She leads by two strokes over Dallas Baptist's Jordan Karrh (71-65), Missouri-St. Louis' Juliette Lecomte (67-69), California State-San Marcos' Madison Murr (70-66), and St. Mary's Savannah Dupre (71-65).

"The course isn't as easy as the scores made it appear," Ray said. "They all played really good golf. This is a good experience."

The final round of the NCAA D2 National Preview begins with a shotgun start Tuesday at noon (Central Time).
