KINGSVILLE, Texas -- Midwestern State seeks a bounce-back performance Saturday night at Texas A&M-Kingsville. Kickoff at Javelina Stadium is set for 7 p.m.
The Mustangs fell to 2-2 overall with a 27-3 loss to UT Permian Basin last week, while moving to 1-1 in Lone Star Conference play.
MSU is led by junior running back
Devin Cross, who ranks third in the LSC with 90.5 rushing yards per game. The Pflugerville native ran for a career-high 154 yards against Eastern New Mexico after rushing for 101 yards against Missouri Southern in the season opener.
Cross has accounted for 362 yards on 48 carries this season with two touchdowns. He also became the eighth Mustang to top 2,000 career rushing yards last week against UT Permian Basin and stands eighth on MSU's all-time rushing list with 2,006 yards.
Junior
Justin White, Jr. leads the receiving corps with 17 receptions for 149 yards, while
Arabia Bradford, Jr. has 11 catches for 126 yards.
Senior safety
Larry Donnell is the Mustangs' tackle leader with 28 stops though four games, while senior cornerback
Ryan Melton has accounted for three interceptions and has broken up three more passes.
Texas A&M-Kingsville rides a three-game winning streak into the weekend which includes victories over Mississippi College (27-7), UT Permian Basin (20-14), and Sul Ross State (56-21).
The Javelinas, who are 2-0 in league play, are part of a four-way tie atop the LSC standings with Central Washington, Angelo State, and Western Oregon.
Sophomore quarterback Teague Sedtal has thrown for 505 yards and five touchdowns this season, while senior Roger Hagan is the Hoggies' top rusher with 332 yards and three touchdowns.
Texas A&M-Kingsville's Xavier Henderson (7.5 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks) and Demarcus Hendricks (6.5 tackles for loss, 4.0 sacks) headlines a defensive front which has produced 36 tackles for loss and 12 quarterback sacks through the first four games.
ABOUT THE SERIES | Midwestern State and Texas A&M-Kingsville meet for the 26th time on the gridiron Saturday night at Javelina Stadium. The Mustangs own an 18-7 advantage in the series that began in 1997. MSU claimed 12 consecutive wins in the series before the Hoggies snapped the run with a 27-21 victory last season in Wichita Falls. The Mustangs are 7-4 all time in Kingsville.
