WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Alli Reily endured a roller coaster of emotions in the final round of the Midwestern State Invitational Tuesday afternoon at the Wichita Falls Country Club.
The junior from Pottsboro, Texas, spent most of the day soaring to high points, logging six birdies on the way to becoming one of the first two women's players to produce two par-or-better scores at the Mustangs' home tournament.
She did all of that after struggling to an quadruple bogey to squander her tournament lead on her first hole of the day, but then showed amazing resiliency by bouncing back with birdies on four of the next six holes.
She regained the edge with consecutive birdies at the turn between the 18th and first holes, before her putter betrayed her on her final hole of the day by taking a five on the par-4 No. 3 to force her into a playoff with Southwestern Oklahoma State's Freya Sala.
Sala skidded in a finely struck approach shot for birdie on Hole No. 1 to claim top honors.
Reily (74-71-72) and Sala (75-70-72) each produced a pair of par-or-better scores becoming the first players in the 15-year history of the tournament to perform the feat. The duo concluded the tournament with a 1-over total of 217 to match a 54-hole event low set last season.
That was another tournament settled with a three-hole playoff which was won by Dallas Baptist's Olivia Mitchell over St. Mary's Savannah Dupre.
Reily completed the fall portion of the schedule with four par-or-better scores and a 73.42 stroke average.
As a team, Midwestern State finished fourth by logging scores of 305, 304, and 306 for a 51-over total of 915 to finish behind Odessa College (899/+35), West Texas A&M (900/+36), and St. Mary's (900/+36).
Senior
Makenna Henry (75-82-74) tied for 18th with a 15-over total of 231, while junior
Kodi Nolen (77-74-81) tied for 23rd with a 16-over 232.
Freshman
Mary Kerr (79-78-84) tied for 50th with a 25-over 241 just two strokes ahead of
Brecklyn Flanagan (83-81-79) and
Madison Wert (81-82-80), who tied for 54th with a 27-over 243. Wert competed as an individual only.
The 51-over team total of 915 was MSU's lowest since the tournament went to a 54-hole format in 2021.
