Midwestern State to square off with Rams on Homecoming

WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Midwestern State takes on Angelo State on Homecoming Saturday night at Memorial Stadium.

The game streams live on FloSports, the exclusive broadcast partner of the Lone Star Conference.

Under first-year head coach Rich Renner, the Mustangs are looking to build off of last week's 40-21 win over Sul Ross State at Memorial Stadium.

MSU took advantage of a pair of interception returns for touchdowns to produce 17 points off of Sul Ross State's three turnovers, including a 98-yard return by senior safety Larry Donnell in the second quarter and a 29-yard return for a score by sophomore linebacker Karter Houchin in the the third quarter.

MSU sophomore quarterback Andrew Knebel completed 16-of-25 passes for 190 yards including a touchdown strikes of 28 yards to Jimmy Trilla and 27 yards to Demonte Greene.

Defensively, the Mustangs forced three turnovers and produced eight tackles for loss with four quarterback sacks.

Junior running back Devin Cross continues to lead MSU in rushing with 452 yards on 63 carries, while Jalen March pitches in 292 yards on 68 totes.

Knebel, who will be making his third consecutive start, has completed 38-of-73 passes for 483 yards with four touchdowns since taking over signal calling duties for the Mustangs.

Sophomore Demonte Greene leads the receiving corps with 305 yards on 13 receptions with three touchdowns, while junior Arabia Bradford, Jr. is second with 227 yards on 17 catches.

Junior Justin White, Jr. leads the squad in receptions with 21 for 196 yards.

Donnell leads the defense with 39 total tackles, and is responsible for four takeaways on two interceptions and two fumble recoveries.

Senior linebacker Braden Robinson is second on the team with 32 tackles.

Angelo State (4-2, 4-0) rides a four-game winning streak into Saturday's game at Midwestern State. After suffering consecutive, non-conference road losses to Fort Hays State (21-7) and Emporia State (17-12), the Rams have reeled over victories over Eastern New Mexico (26-20), Western New Mexico (21-0), UT Permian Basin (36-7), and Texas A&M-Kingsville (38-0).

The Angelo State defense limits the opposition to 269.3 yards per game and have been instrumental in producing a +11 turnover margin as the Rams have forced 14 turnovers including eight on interceptions and six off of fumbles.

Senior linebacker Kenton Allen tops the team with 58 tackles, while junior cornerback Andrew Pitts boasts five interceptions and senior defensive lineman Dylan Neeley leads the Rams with 3 1/2 quarterback sacks.

Dual-threat quarterback Braeden Fuller directs the Angelo State offense, completing 83-of-150 passes for 1,003 yards with eight touchdowns. The junior from Floresville, Texas, also leads the squad with 277 rushing yards with five touchdowns. He has yet to throw an interception.

Senior running back Brayden Wilcox has also rushed for 244 yards on 52 carries, while junior Kel Williams leads the receiving corps with 277 yards on 21 receptions with three touchdowns.

ABOUT THE SERIES | Midwestern State and Angelo State meet for the 27th time on the gridiron Saturday night at Memorial Stadium. The Mustangs lead the series by a 16-10 margin, but the Rams have won three of the last four meetings. MSU is 9-4 all-time against the Rams at Memorial Stadium.
