Mustangs host Rattlers, seek second straight win

WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Midwestern State is back under the dome to face St. Edward's and St. Mary's at D. L. Ligon Coliseum this week. The Hilltoppers meet the Mustangs at 6 p.m. on Friday night, and the Rattlers visit for a Saturday afternoon match at 2 p.m.

Midwestern State is 7-10 overall this season with a 1-5 record in the Lone Star Conference following back-to-back losses at Western New Mexico and UT Permian Basin last week.

The Mustangs are 4-3 at home this season and won their last match at D.L. Ligon Coliseum, 3-0, against Sul Ross State two weeks ago.

Midwestern State leads the LSC and is 20th in the nation with 39 attacks per set, but the Mustangs are 11th in the league with 12.67 kills per set.

Isabella Dickens is seventh in the conference with a hitting percentage of .349 over 58 sets, and Kimora Carter is emerging for the Stang Gang with a .317 attack percentage in 17 sets. Carter played all eight sets on the recent road trip and appeared in two of the sets in the last home match.

Riley Rabedeaux leads MSU with 192 points through 58 sets, and she is hitting .233 with more than three kills per set. Dickens is second on the team with 175.5 total points.

Brooke Parker and Alayna Guerrero lead the Mustangs in assists. Parker has a team-high 298 total assists, while Guerrero has 264 total assists. Guerrero leads the teams with 7.33 assists per set and Parker is second with 5.33 assists per set. Parker has played in 51 sets and Guerrero has appeared in 36 sets.

The Mustangs are seventh in the conference with 15.78 digs per set, led by Jenna Redding and Amy DeWalt. Redding averages 3.30 digs per set and has 175 total digs over 53 sets. DeWalt has played in 58 sets and has 180 total digs with a 3.10 digs per set average.

Gabrielle Oos leads MSU with 42 total blocks in 48 sets played, and she is 11th in the league with 0.88 blocks per set. Dickens has 35 total blocks and leads the team with 10 solo blocks. Oos has nine solo blocks for the Mustangs.

Stephanie Radecki is closing in on 400 career wins in her coaching career. Radecki, who is in her 22nd season as a head coach, holds a career record of 395-296.

Midwestern State averages 1.38 service aces per set, and Rabedeaux leads the team with 12 aces. Parker has served 11 aces, while Demi Stauffenberg and Mia Nicklas each have 10. Oos has served nine aces this season.

Stauffenberg continues to show her all-around skill on the floor. The junior from Lander, Wyoming, is third on the team with 2.56 kills and 2.89 points per set. Stauffenberg is also third on the team with 2.80 digs per set and 15 total blocks.
 

St. Edward's


St. Edward's is 9-8 overall with a 1-5 conference record and has a three-match losing streak. The Hilltoppers have lost six of their last seven matches and are coming off a 3-0 loss to UT Tyler.

Midwestern State leads the all-time series with St. Edward's, 12-7, but lost to the Hilltoppers in Austin, Texas, last season, 25-17, 25-23, 25-19.

Mia Clay leads St. Edward's and is seventh in the LSC with 210 total kills and 3.56 kills per set. She also leads the Hilltoppers and is eighth in the league with 222.5 total points and 3.77 points per set. Clay has a .222 hitting percentage.

The Hilltoppers are hitting .229 as a team, and Cora Young leads the team with a hitting percentage of .364. Young has 69 kills over 57 sets.

St. Edward's leads the conference with 1.84 aces per set and is second in the league with 114 total aces. Jazzy Williams has served 21 aces, while Cora Young has delivered 16 and Kelli Fording is responsible for 14 service aces.

The Hilltoppers lead the conference and are 30th in the nation with 17.47 digs per set. Althea Morris leads the team with 166 total digs, and Giselle Ojeda is averaging a team-best 2.91 digs per set.

Young leads St. Edward's and is fourth in the conference with 58 total blocks, and she has a team-leading 13 solo blocks.
 

St. Mary's


St. Mary's enters the week with a 12-5 overall record and is 4-2 in conference play. The Rattlers had a seven-match winning streak snapped with a five-set loss to UT Tyler last week and also suffered a 3-2 loss against Dallas Baptist at Bill Greehey Arena in San Antonio.

Midwestern State leads the all-time series with St. Mary's, 10-9, but the Rattlers have won the last five meetings, including a 3-1 victory in San Antonio last season. St. Mary's is 1-1 when visiting MSU and won its last visit, 3-1, in September of 2022.

Alyssa Koehl leads the conference with 340 total digs and 5.40 digs per set. The Rattlers are third in the league as a team with 16.95 digs per set.

Opponents are only hitting .190 against St. Mary's this season.

Dallastar Johnson is sixth in the LSC with one block per set and third in the league with 63 total blocks. St. Mary's is averaging 2.04 blocks per set, which is fifth-best in the LSC.

The Rattlers boast the second-best hitting percentage in the league at .249, and Johnson leads the squad with a hitting percentage of .345, which is eighth-best in the LSC. Alicia Virthe is hitting .311 for St. Mary's.

Cali Nims leads the team and is third in the conference with 679 total assists and 10.78 assists per set.

St. Mary's is second in the conference with 1.79 service aces per set. Virthe is fourth in the conference with 24 total aces and sixth in the league with 0.38 aces per set. Nims is 10th in the LSC with 21 aces served through 63 sets.

Midwestern State visits Southwestern Oklahoma on Tuesday night. First serve at Pioneer Cellular Event Center is at 6 p.m.
