THE LEAD
OKLAHOMA CITY -- Quinton Johnson II's 3-pointer from the top of the key with six seconds remaining lifted Oklahoma Christian to a 62-61 win over Midwestern State Saturday afternoon at the Payne Athletic Center.
The Eagles (9-10, 6-7 LSC) snapped a two-game slide, but now have won four of their last six, while MSU has split its last six games, moving to 12-7 overall and 6-7 in league play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Midwestern State's
Bakari LaStrap buried a 3-pointer to give the Mustangs a 56-52 lead with 3:58 to play. That ended up as MSU's last field goal of the game.
The Mustangs managed to go 5-of-6 from the charity stripe down the stretch, but it was enough to hold Oklahoma Christian off.
OC's Javon Grant hit a 3-pointer and a pair of pull-up jumpers to pull the Eagles to within a single points in the closing minutes.
And LaStrap converted 1-of-2 charity tosses with 18 seconds left, leaving the Mustangs with a 61-59 lead.
Midwestern State appeared to tip the ball away from Johnson in the closing seconds, but he snagged the ball out of the air and drilled the game winning triple with six seconds remaining.
Midwestern State's
Pierre Sanders drove into the paint in the closing seconds, but his shot was blocked by Grant as time expired.
