OKLAHOMA CITY -- Midwestern State's
Mere Escobar hit the post Wednesday night at Eagle Soccer Field, but did not impact the score line for the first time this season.
That only allowed the No. 4-ranked Mustangs to prove they have plenty of firepower in reserve.
Liam Pritchard and
Jack Larkin accounted for a goal and an assist each to keep MSU unbeaten with a 3-1 win over Oklahoma Christian.
The Mustangs scored off of corner kicks in the 30th and 79th minutes Pritchard made a run down the right forward channel before centering a cross to Larkin for the final score of the night in the 88th minute.
The Mustangs improved to 8-0-1, while sending Oklahoma Christian to 1-4-4.
Midwestern State junior
Max Gonzales scored the opener on Larkin's serve from the right corner in the 30th minute. The Dripping Springs native found space in the middle of the goal area and headed his second goal of the season to the upper left corner of the net.
Oklahoma Christian pulled even in the 62nd minute when Alexandre Picoto Rodrigues ran on to a clearance near the top of the penalty area and drilled his first goal of the season into the upper left side of the net.
The Mustangs reclaimed the advantage off of another corner kick in the 79th minute when an Escobar serve toward the far post was deflected back to the near post off Oklahoma Christian forward Mason Thornhill's shoulder.
Pritchard headed in his second goal of the season to give MSU a 2-1 lead before putting the match away minutes later.
Statistically, MSU held an 11-8 edge in shots, while limiting the Eagles to two shots on frame.
The match featured nine bookings with six cautions given to the Mustangs and three to OC.
