No. 28 Midwestern State smashes DBU, 7-0

ARLINGTON, Texas -- No. 28-ranked Midwestern State ripped Dallas Baptist 7-0 Saturday afternoon at the Arlington Tennis Center to remain perfect in Lone Star Conference play.

The Mustangs won their fourth consecutive match to improve to 12-7 overall while moving to 5-0 in league play.

MSU can clinch its second consecutive and fifth overall LSC title with wins over UT Tyler and Cameron next week.

Midwestern State wasted little time taking control against the Patriots, which closed the regular season with an 11-15 overall and 0-8 league records.

Charles Heffernan and Killian Guillou combined for their third consecutive win by taking down DBU's Andrew Dayman and Bradley Neil, 6-1, at No. 3 doubles.

Luis Diaz Argente and Stephen Slocombe followed with a 6-3 win over Fabian Rosales and Arturo Langle at No. 1 before No. 26-ranked Germano Setti and Marcal Miret Avante followed with a 6-4 win over Grant McKenzie and Aaron Capone at No. 2 doubles.

The Mustangs continued their dominating run through the LSC in singles play, improving to 27-3 against league opponents. MSU won all six in straight sets.

Heffernan won his fourth straight with a 6-1, 6-1 win over former teammate Matthew Abbey at No. 2, while Guillou extended his winning streak to 10 with a convincing 6-1, 6-0 victory over Ricardo Carvajalino at No. 4 singles.

Diaz Argente provided the clincher with a 6-2, 6-2 win over McKenzie to win his fourth consecutive dual match while improving to 10-8 at No. 1 singles.

Slocombe improved to 5-1 on the season with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Edgar Mayorga at No. 6, while Miret Avante improved to 12-6 with a 6-0, 6-4 victory over Aaron Capone at No. 3 singles.

Freshman Germano Setti finished off the sweep by claiming his team-high 13th singles win, beating Rosales 6-1, 6-4 at No. 5 singles.

Midwestern State takes on No. 7-ranked UT Tyler in a showdown of the LSC's remaining unbeaten teams Tuesday afternoon at Summer Tennis Center in Tyler. First serve is set for 11 a.m.
