Williams and Lawson selected LSC First Team Doubles; Lawson and Di Matteo recognized in singles

WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Sydney Williams and Amelia Lawson were selected Lone Star Conference First Team Doubles as voted on by the league's 11 head coaches. Lawson also earned Second Team Singles recognition. Alice Di Matteo received Honorable Mention Singles, and Skylar Minns was named to the Sportsmanship Team.

Williams and Lawson have been stalwarts at No. 1 doubles for Midwestern State with 23 appearances at No. 1 doubles and a 14-6 record. The tandem won eight of their 10 conference matches and were 1-2 against nationally ranked opponents. The pair had an eight-match winning streak during the campaign and is No. 33 in the ITA Collegiate Tennis Rankings.

Lawson has played No. 1 singles all season long for the Mustangs and enters the postseason with a 13-9 record. The fifth-year senior from New Zealand has won seven of her last eight singles matches, including a 7-5, 3-6, 6-2 victory over Joanna Potet of Arkansas-Fort Smith in her last outing. Lawson has been pushed to three sets in four of her last five matches and has won the decisive set in all four matches.

Di Matteo is 3-1 in her last four matches at No. 2 singles and was 7-7 in 16 appearances at the No. 3 position. The fifth-year senior from Palermo, Italy, helped the Mustangs clinch the No. 2 seed in the LSC Women's Tennis Championship Tournament with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Lea Manga of No. 9-ranked Cameron at MSU Tennis Center on April 13.

Skylar Minns won her first eight completed singles matches this season and finished with a 13-2 overall singles record during the regular season. Minns was 9-1 at No. 5 singles and 3-1 at No. 4 singles. The junior from New Braunfels, Texas, was also 13-7 in doubles, including a 10-3 record with Emilija Visic.

Midwestern State is the No. 2 seed in the LSC Women's Tennis Championship Tournament, which features the top eight women's teams based on the final conference standings.  The Mustangs meet seventh-seeded Lubbock Christian in the quarterfinals at Arlington Tennis Center. The dual match begins at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday.
