Mustangs set for 13th Annual Midwestern State Invitational

WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Midwestern State competes in its seventh tournament of the season by hosting the 13th Annual MSU Invitational at the Wichita Falls Country Club.

LAST TIME OUT | Midwestern State finished fifth in the seven-team field of the St. Mary's Rattler Invitational on Feb. 27-28 at Dominion Country Club. Sophomore Brecklyn Flanagan finished eighth individually leading the Mustangs with a 54-hole total of 228 (+12) firing scores of 77, 76, and 75.

THE FIELD IN GOLFSTAT RANKINGS | The nine-team field features six Lone Star Conference programs, one from the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association, one from the Great American Conference, and a junior college. Dallas Baptist carries the top GolfStat team ranking at No. 2 in NCAA Division II followed by Midwestern State (35), Texas A&M International (45), Angelo State (53), Northeastern State (57), Cameron (65), Oklahoma Christian (77), and Southern Arkansas (123). McLennan CC is ranked seventh in the NJCAA GolfStat rankings.

MUSTANGS IN THE MIDWESTERN STATE INVITATIONAL | Midwestern State won its home invitational on three occasions -- 2013, 2015, and 2022. The Mustangs produced two individual medalists with Kendra Whittley winning the tournament in 2011, while Juanita Gomez won last season.

MIDWESTERN STATE LINEUP

NO. 1 BAG | Tristan Gabbard was named as a player to watch by the Lone Star Conference following a stellar fall campaign. The freshman from Fulshear won her collegiate debut at The Swan Memorial and has finished in the Top 20 in three of five tournaments. Gabbard, who is ranked 76th in NCAA Division II by GolfStat, owns a season stroke average of 75.06. She posted five par-or-better scores over 14 rounds and boasts an 75.3 finish percentage.

NO. 2 BAG | Sophomore Brecklyn Flanagan delivered her second collegiate Top 10 finish by taking eighth last week at the St. Mary's Rattler Invitational carding scores of 77, 76, and 75 at the Dominion Country Club. The play continued a solid trend for Flanagan, who tied for 12th while playing as an individual medalist only at the Oklahoma Intercollegiate while she fired consecutive season-best scores of 75 in MSU's final competition of the fall. She followed the performance up by recording three team countable scores in the spring opener at The Southern Invitational on her way to a tying 46th with scores of 80, 76, and 79 for a 16-over 235. The Plano East Senior High graduate owns a stroke average of 77.36 through her first 14 tournament rounds this season.

NO. 3 BAG | Junior Madison Brown got off to a stellar start in the fall posting a pair of Top 10 finishes. She earned Lone Star Conference Golfer of the Week honors after tying for second at the Oklahoma Intercollegiate carding scores of 72 and 75 for a 3-over total of 147 at the Lawton Country Club. That was a week after finishing 10th at the DBU West Region Preview firing scores of 75, 73, and 70 for a 2-over total of 218 at the Dallas Athletic Club. Brown sports a season stroke average of 73.00 through her first five tournament rounds for the Maroon & Gold.

NO. 4 BAG | Sophomore Makenna Henry finished strong to tie for 11th last week at the St. Mary's Rattler Invitational. She recovered from an opening round 82 to fire scores of 76 and 73. The Sour Lake native enjoyed a career best finish by tying for fifth in the fall finale at the Oklahoma Intercollegiate. She fired scores of 73 and 75 for a 4-over 148 at the Lawton Country Club. Henry has a 76.14 stroke average through 14 rounds and carries a GolfStat Division II ranking of 156th.

NO. 5 BAG | Senior Beatrice Perucchini owns three Top 25 finishes this season. The placed 15th in the Oklahoma Intercollegiate firing scores of 74 and 77 for a 7-over total of 151 in the fall finale at the Lawton Country Club. The Varese, Italy, native also finished 24th at the Swan Memorial and 25th at the DBU Women's Classic. She owns a season stroke average of 77.36 through 14 tournament rounds this season.

INDIVIDUAL MEDALIST | Sophomore Hollie James competes in her second tournament of the season. The sophomore from Rockwall tied for 26th firing scores of 79 and 76 also competing as an individual medalist in the Oklahoma Intercollegiate at the Lawton Country Club.

INDIVIDUAL MEDALIST | Freshman Kodi Nolen opened the fall campaign by tying for 10th at The Swan Memorial on her way to posting a stroke average of 77.54 through her first 17 collegiate rounds.
