FRISCO, Texas -- Senior
Jermane Carter was selected as a member of the All-Lone Star Conference first team and All-LSC defensive team as voted on by head coaches and announced prior to the start of the LSC Postseason Tournament on Wednesday night. Junior
Pierre Sanders was named to the All-LSC third team after leading the Mustangs in assists and steals. Senior
Derrick Ogechi was selected for the LSC All-Academic Team.
Carter finished the season as the leading scorer, leading rebounder and leading shot blocker for Midwestern State. He closed out the campaign with 13.3 points and 8.3 rebounds per game. The 6-7 forward from Mount Laurel, New Jersey, started all 28 games for the Mustangs and finished sixth in the conference with 29 blocked shots.
Carter pulled down 3.32 offensive rebounds per game, which led the LSC, and he was the third-leading rebounder in the conference overall.
Carter scored a career-high 31 points in his final game as a Mustang, leading MSU to a season-ending 95-61 victory over Cameron. He had seven double-doubles over the course of the season and finished his career at MSU with 1,002 points.
Carter was named third-team All-LSC in 2021, and last year he was selected All-LSC second team.
Sanders was the second-leading scorer for MSU with 13 points per game, and the 5-10 guard was third on the team with 4.6 rebounds per game. Sanders stole the ball 50 times this season and led the conference with 1.8 steals per game. He dished out 93 assists in his 28 starts for Midwestern State.
The Hutto, Texas, native scored a career-high 36 points for the Mustangs in a 92-86 victory over West Texas A&MÂ at D.L. Ligon Coliseum on Jan. 28. In the final game of the season, Sanders narrowly missed a triple-double with 10 points, a season-high 12 rebounds and nine assists for Midwestern State, which finished the season 12-16 overall and 9-13 in conference play.
The defensive-minded Sanders recorded five steals in three games this season, including a 71-65 victory at Lubbock Christian on New Year's Day. He also had five steals in losses at UT Permian Basin and Texas A&M-Kingsville.
Sanders scored in double figures 21 times and had at least five assists in eight games this season. The energetic guard was eighth in the conference and led the Mustangs with a free-throw percentage of .842.
Last season, Sanders was an All-LSC honorable mention.
Ogechi returned to the Mustangs after serving a medical redshirt season last year. The senior from Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, started all 28 games for MSU and averaged 10.7 points per game in his final campaign. Ogechi was the most prolific 3-point shooter for the Mustangs hitting 64-of-182 shots from beyond the arc.
Ogechi has made the Dean's Honor Roll twice and has been on the LSC Commissioner's Honor Roll five times.
To be eligible for LSC academic honors, student-athletes must have played in at least 50 percent of team's contests, reached sophomore athletic and academic, completed at least one full academic year at the nominating institution, and have a minimum 3.30 cumulative grade point average based on the 4.0 system for their entire collegiate career. The LSC All-Academic team is selected by a vote of the league's sports information directors.
