WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Dallas Baptist took a 10-0 lead in the opening 2:13 of the game and never looked back on its way to an 87-65 victory over Midwestern State in the Lone Star Conference opener at D.L. Ligon Coliseum on Thursday night.
Cameron Kahn scored 19 points and pulled down 13 rebounds to lead the No. 10-ranked Patriots, who are 5-0 to start the season. Ta'Jay Dunlap was 7 of 11 from the field and scored 18 points, while Deng Dut and Ricky Lujan each finished with 12 points for Dallas Baptist.
The Patriots outrebounded Midwestern State, 52-40, and outscored the Mustangs in the paint, 54-34.
Austin Lewis and
Pierre Sanders each scored 14 points for MSU, which is 6-1 following the loss.
Mason Gibson scored 11 points for the Mustangs, who shot 46.9 percent from the field and finished 7 of 29 from 3-point range.
Amaechi Chukwu was 5-of-5 from the field and finished with 11 points and six rebounds.
Austin Lewis was the leading rebounder for MSU with seven boards.
Antwan Taylor grabbed six rebounds in the loss.
Dallas Baptist established a 16-point lead at halftime and led by as many as 28 points in the second half.
The Patriots outscored MSU in the paint, 54-34.
Midwestern State returns to D.L. Ligon Coliseum on Saturday afternoon to face UT Tyler. Tipoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.
