OKLAHOMA CITY -- Riley Rabedeaux had 11 kills, a service ace and a block assist for Midwestern State in the season finale, but Oklahoma Christian ended the Mustangs season with a 25-19, 25-17, 25-22 defeat at Payne Athletic Center on Saturday afternoon.
The Eagles hit .272 for the match and held the Mustangs to a .127 attack percentage. Oklahoma finished with 18 more kills, 47-29, and delivered eight services aces, which was five more than the Mustangs.
Giorgia Turri led the way for the Eagles with 20 kills on 44 swings and hit .341. Brylie Berryman finished with 23 digs for Oklahoma Christian.
Arrianna Fields hit .316 with eight kills on 19 swings and led MSU with 17 digs.
Taygon Jones finished with 15 digs for the Mustangs, who close out the season with a 4-24 overall record and went 1-15 against conference opponents.
Midwestern lost its final 10 matches after sweeping Eastern New Mexico, 3-0, on Oct. 11.
Lily Saenz had two aces during a five-point run in the first set that allowed the Eagles to take an 8-4 lead. Saenz had a kill, and Annie Davis terminated three consecutive points as Oklahoma Christian won five of six points to extend its lead to 20-12. Midwestern State would draw no closer than five points as the Eagles won the opening set.
Oklahoma Christian won seven of the last eight points en route to a 25-17 victory in the second set. Aven Rainey assisted Turri on five kills during the set-closing run for the Eagles.
Turri led the Eagles on three runs of three-straight points in the third set, and Saenz ended the match with a kill as Oklahoma Christian won four of the final five points to close out the match and the season.
Neither team qualified for the 2023 Lone Star Conference Volleyball Championship in Dallas, Texas, which begins on Nov. 16 with Dallas Baptist as the No. 1 seed.
Tournament play begins with four quarterfinal matches on Thursday. No. 3 Angelo State faces No. 6 UT Tyler at 12 p.m. followed by No. 2 West Texas A&M versus No. 7 Texas Woman's at 2:30 p.m. No. 1 DBU faces No. 8 Texas A&M International in the 5 p.m. match while No. 4 UAFS meets No. 5 Texas A&M-Kingsville in the 7:30 p.m. match.
