WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- It just seemed like matter of time for No. 2-ranked Midwestern State Saturday night at Stang Park.
With the Mustangs controlling 70 percent of the possession and Eastern New Mexico slumping back in a defensive posture, the chances were sure to come.
Not surprisingly,
Mere Escobar pounced on the opportunity when it finally arrived, scoring the game winner in the 79th minute for a 1-0 win over the Greyhounds.
But it didn't come in quite the normal way.
After making a save, ENMU goalkeeper Paul Waschkau delayed a restart which led to a indirect kick within the penalty area.
MSU senior midfielder
Maycol Reyes shifted the ball toward the right post allowing Escobar to find an opening through a mass of Greyhounds in front of the goal to provide the difference.
Escobar added his 41st career tally to the ledger by netting his 14th goal of the season. The Austin native has scored goals in each of his last three matches and has had a hand in at least one goal in 14 of the Mustangs' 15 matches this season.
Midwestern State improved to 14-0-1 on the season and remained perfect in six Lone Star Conference matches. The Mustangs also extended their winning streak to 12 matches which is the longest since the 2010 squad won the first 12 games of the season.
Adam Braman needed to make just one save to finish off his seventh clean sheet of the season.
Midwestern State welcomes St. Edward's to Stang Park on Wednesday night. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
