WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Senior
Lauryn Bourne delivered her sixth double-double of the season Friday night against Dallas Baptist.
But it wasn't enough to offset a pair of 16-kill performance by Delaney Fuller and Karly Wells as the Patriots rolled to a 25-19, 26-24, 25-21 win at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
DBU improved to 15-6 overall and to 8-2 in Lone Star Conference play, while the Mustangs took their third consecutive loss to fall to 4-17 and 1-8.
Bourne put down five of her 13 kills and the Mustangs served up five aces including a two consecutive by
Brooke Parker to gain momentum and three set points in the second set.
But MSU endured a ball handling error and a miscue on an attack before DBU libero Daylee Doggett pulled the Patriots even at 24-24 with an ace of her own.
Dallas Baptist scored seven of the final eight points of the set including back-to-back kills by Fuller to put away the set.
Bourne finished the game with a .324 hitting percentage, putting down 13 kills on 34 attempts with two errors, while
Riley Rabedeaux and
Isabella Dickens added seven and six kills, respectively.
Freshman setter
Alayna Guerrero turned in an all-around effort with 28 set assists, nine digs, and four blocks, while sophomore libero
Taygon Jones finished with 12 digs.
Doggett led back row efforts for the Patriots with 22 digs, while Lindsey Otero, Shaylee Shore, and Price Reeves were in on four blocks each helping DBU nine total rejections at the net.
Midwestern State returns to action Saturday by playing host to UT Tyler at D.L. Ligon Coliseum. First serve is set for 2 p.m.
