WICHITA FALLS, Texas – No. 6 Midwestern State continued to take full advantage of its scoring opportunities Saturday night at Stang Park.
The Mustangs (5-0) remained perfect with a 3-0 win over Southern Nazarene.
MSU took control by scoring two goals in the space of 57 seconds in the first half.
Senior midfielder
Toi Yamaoka chased down a ball on the right flank and attempted to send a cross back through the box in the 37th, but his serve struck the right hand of flailing Southern Nazarene defender Esteban Ramirez just inside the box.
Junior
Mere Escobar tucked the ensuing penalty kick to the lower left side of the net for his second goal of the season. It was his fourth successful penalty conversion of his collegiate career.
A minute later, senior
Adam Robinson confirmed his accuracy by hitting a perfect serve off of a free kick from 30 yards out on the right flank.
The crossing pass to the middle of the box was headed in at the high point by
Tristian Adams for his second collegiate goal and first of the season.
Robinson also assisted on the game winning goal in a 1-0 win Thursday night over No. 12 Fort Hays State.
The Mustangs proved opportunistic in the second half adding a third goal in the 61st minute.
Sophomore
Rory Doyle knocked SNU player off of the ball in the attacking zone and sent the ball to the left channel for an unmarked Escobar. Escobar worked his way to the touch line and sent a centering pass across the face of the goal.
Junior
Sulahmana Bah ran onto the ball and sent it into an open net for his second goal of the season.
Sophomore
Adam Braman continued to impress in his third consecutive start in goal delivering a clean sheet in each match. The native of Mercer Island, Washington faced four shots while making four saves.
Midwestern State opens Lone Star Conference play against rival West Texas A&M Wednesday night in Canyon. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
