No. 43 Mustangs and No. 6 Aggies face off in LSC match on Tuesday

WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- In the 56th meeting of the Red River Rivalry, Midwestern State hosts Cameron at MSU Tennis Center. The 43rd-ranked Mustangs and the sixth-ranked Aggies battle on Tuesday, April 12, at 1 p.m.

ABOUT THE MUSTANGS

The 43rd-ranked Mustangs control an 18-5 record. The team won their last two matches last weekend. MSU has 12 home wins this season. The team dropped only to Seward County and Tyler Junior College at MSU Tennis Center.

Anda Ghinga holds the 34th spot in the ITA National Singles Rankings. The sophomore is 14-8 at line one, dropping her last three matches. She earned her second career Lone Star Conference Player of the Week honors on March 9. The Arad, Romania, native is 2-3 against ranked opponents this year.

Ghinga and Hannah Yip sit at 24th in the ITA National Doubles Rankings. The duo has yet to be defeated this spring season, earning 18 consecutive wins. Yip earned a 10-11 record at the Mustangs' line two.

Emilija Visic won her last three singles matches. The sophomore holds 16 wins this year. She earned her first LSC Player of the Week honor after winning ten matches from March 9 to 16. The Phoenix, Ariz., product is 5-1 in LSC play.

Visic and Casie Curry hold the 45th spot in the ITA National Rankings. The pair has a 15-2 record, winning their last four matches. They have five Lone Star Conference wins at line two.

Curry has 16 singles wins this season. The junior is 10-2 at line four for the Mustangs. She won her last two matches; stepping up to play at line two. Curry recently surpassed 100 career wins, which puts her 13th in the MSU program records.

Skylar Minns holds a 15-6 record. The sophomore played the last seven matches a line six where she is 12-6. She won her last two matches. Minns and Sydney Williams are 15-6 at doubles line three this season. The duo dropped their last two matches.

AT THE HELM

Scott Linn is in his 12th season at the helm of the Midwestern State men's and women's tennis programs. He guided the Mustangs to 17 NCAA Tournament appearances since he arrived in Wichita Falls in 2010. The Mustangs have thrived under Linn's leadership as he revived the program to the highest level. Linn has directed the women's program to a 201-86 (.700) record in his eleven seasons on campus. This includes nine NCAA Division II postseason appearances. Linn helped the team reach the round of 16 in 2013, 2014, 2018, and 2019. The Mustangs also made trips to the NCAA quarterfinals in 2015 and 2017 under his direction.

SCOUTING THE AGGIES

Cameron is 14-3 for the season losing only to Tyler Junior College, UT Arlington, and Angelo State. The team is 4-1 in Lone Star Conference play after dropping to the 35th-ranked Rambelles on Saturday. On the road, the Aggies have a 5-1 record for the spring season. CU ranked No. 6 in last week's ITA Collegiate Tennis Rankings.

Vasilisa Polunova is 11-4 at line one this season. The junior from Moscow, Russia, is No. 31 in the ITA listings. She is 1-1 versus ranked opponents, recently losing to No. 14 Dianela Rodriguez (St. Mary's). Polunova and Karolina Glowinka have a 12-3 record at doubles line two. The duo is 3-1 in LSC play.

Glowinska has a 7-2 tally at line six for the Aggies. The senior from Opalenie, Poland, is 2-2 in conference matches.

35th-ranked Lea Manga owns a 7-6 record at line two. The sophomore from Honfleur, France, is 1-1 when playing ranked opposition. Manga is 2-2 in Lone Star Conference singles matches. She and Kateryna Rudenko are 7-8 at doubles line three. The duo lost the last four matches.

Anastasia Uspenskaia and Magda Wawrowska are No. 18 in the ITA's Doubles Rankings. The pair has a 13-4 record at line one with nine consecutive wins. Uspenskaia is 11-2 at singles line three with a 13-match streak in all matches. Wawrowska won eight of 13 matches at line five.

ABOUT THE SERIES

Midwestern State is behind Cameron in the Red River Rival series. The Mustangs have 27 wins while the Aggies hold 28. There was one 5-5 tie that occurred in 1987. MSU leads the conference battle 14-12 against CU. In 2021, Midwestern State bested Cameron 6-1 in Lawton, Okla. When playing at home, the Mustangs are 11-11-1 versus the Aggies.
