FRISCO, Texas -- Midwestern State battles Dallas Baptist in the quarterfinal round of the Lone Star Conference Postseason Tournament Thursday afternoon at D.L. Ligon Coliseum. Tipoff is set for noon.

Midwestern State advanced to the Lone Star Conference Postseason Tournament as the No. 6 seed completing league play with a 10-6 record. The Mustangs take on No. 11-seeded UT Tyler in the opening round with the winning moving on to face third-seeded Dallas Baptist Thursday afternoon at Comerica Center.

Midwestern State is 29-13 (.690) in 21 all-time Lone Star Conference Postseason Tournament appearances... The Mustangs claimed seven LSC Postseason Tournament championships (1999, 2000, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2016)... MSU is 12-6 all time in the quarterfinal round of the LSC Postseason Tournament... HEAD COACH JUSTIN LESLIE is in his third season at the helm of the Midwestern State men's basketball program. The Mustangs battled to an 8-21 mark in 2019-20 but closed the regular season by winning four out of five games to qualify for the Lone Star Conference Postseason Tournament. MSU also closed the 2020-21 regular season with four straight wins advancing the LSC Postseason Tournament for the second straight year with an 11-8 overall record. Prior to MSU, Leslie posted a 266-121 overall record (.687) at Azusa Pacific leading the Cougars to nine 20-win campaigns, two Pacific West Conference titles, seven postseason tournament appearance and an NCAA Division II Elite Eight showing in 2015. Overall, Leslie owns a 300-164 mark (.647) in 15 seasons as a collegiate head coach including a 34-43 record (.442) at MSU.
SCOUTING THE PATRIOTS
Dallas Baptist lost their final two regular season games to Oklahoma Christian and UAFS in the Burg Center last week and dropped three of its last five games since beating then-No. 1 Lubbock Christian, 75-73, on Feb. 5... Sophomore guard Cameron Kahn leads four DBU players averaging in double figures at 12.7 points per game while pulling down 5.3 rebounds... Kahn scored in double figures in six of the last seven games beginning with a 26-point outburst against Eastern New Mexico (2/3)... Kahn shoots 53.5 percent from the floor... Sophomore guard Ricky Lujan scores 12.2 points and dished out 2.8 assists in 31 minutes per game... Lujan has scored in double figures in each of his last six games including 20-point efforts against Western New Mexico (2/12) and UAFS (2/26)... Sophomore Austin Garner scores 10.6 points per game while shooting 39.2 percent from the arc... Garner has hit a 3-pointer in 24 of 27 games this season and made at least three treys in 14 games including a season-high seven against Southwestern Oklahoma State (12/18)... HEAD COACH BLAKE FLICKNER owns a 304-189 (.617) record in his 16th season as at the helm of the Dallas Baptist men's basketball program. He has guided the Patriots to six NCAA Division II South Central Region appearances including postseason runs in each of the last four seasons. Flickner led DBU to Heartland Conference regular season titles in 2017 and 2018 and league postseason championships in 2016 and 2018. The Patriots have topped the 20-win plateau in seven of Flickner's 15 seasons leading the program.
ABOUT THE SERIES
Midwestern State and Dallas Baptist meet for the 53rd time on the hardwood Thursday afternoon at Comerica Center. The Mustangs own a 28-24 edge in the series that dates back to the 1968-69 season. The Mustangs snapped a six-game losing streak in the series by beating DBU 75-61 at D.L. Ligon Coliseum (2/8). It is the second LSC postseason season meeting between the programs. The Patriots eliminated MSU 76-55 in the 2021 LSC Postseason Tournament's first round at the Burg Center.
