WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Midwestern State faces Oklahoma Christian in the season finale Saturday afternoon at D.L. Ligon Coliseum. Tipoff is set for 4 p.m.

SENIOR DAY

Midwestern State pays tribute to two seniors Saturday afternoon at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
- Jalin Brown is a three-year letter winner and a transfer from Jacksonville College who began his collegiate career at Tarleton State. The 6-8 forward averaged 6.9 points and 5.9 rebounds in 68 career games at MSU.
- Drake Dusek is a three-year letter winner out of Tompkins High School in Katy, Texas. The 6-5 guard appeared in 26 games over the past three seasons for the Mustangs.

LSC POSTSEASON SCENARIOS

There is only one scenario that lands Midwestern State with a first bye into the quarterfinal round of the Lone Star Conference Postseason Tournament. Otherwise, the Mustangs are set to host a first-round game Tuesday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum. This breakdown does not project the opponent.

If Midwestern State beats Oklahoma Christian AND
- WT loses to TAMIU AND Texas A&M-Commerce loses at UTPB, MSU is the No. 4 seed.
- Either WT or Texas A&M-Commerce loses, MSU is the No. 5 seed
- WT and Texas A&M-Commerce both win, MSU is the No. 6 seed

If Midwestern State loses to Oklahoma Christian AND
- Angelo State beats UT Tyler AND UAFS beats Dallas Baptist, MSU is the No. 8 seed
- Either ASU or UAFS loses, MSU is the No. 7 seed
- ASU and UAFS both lose, MSU is the No. 6 seed

Midwestern State has won seven of the last nine and eight of the last 11 to move into sole possession of sixth place in the Lone Star Conference standings... Midwestern State must now win its remaining regular season game and one game in the LSC Postseason Tournament to secure a .500-or-better record for the second consecutive season... The Mustangs have not posted back-to-back .500-or-better seasons since going 24-6 in 2015-16 and 14-14 in 2016-17... MSU is one of five out of 17 LSC members to complete a full basketball slate with St. Edward's and Cameron omitted due to a forfeit... MSU is 2-3 in games decided by two-or-fewer points this season both of the victories have come against UAFS (63-62 on 12/10 and 68-67 on 2/26)... The Mustangs fell 69-68 at UT Tyler (1/2), 75-73 at Angelo State (1/13) and 59-58 at Texas A&M-Kingsville (2/17)... In those four games, the Mustangs led into the final minute against UAFS, UT Tyler and Texas A&M-Kingsville and were within a point with 35 seconds to play against Angelo State... Seven of Midwestern State's last nine wins have been by double digits... Midwestern State is 8-4 at D.L. Ligon Coliseum this season and has won the last five games played on its home court... Midwestern State leads the Lone Star Conference in scoring defense (63.1 ppg), field goal percentage defense (.390) and is seventh in 3-point percentage defense (.332) during league play... The defensive run pulled the Mustangs to third in the league and 54th in NCAA Division II in field goal percentage defense (.420) for the season... MSU has limited the opposition to less the 40-percent shooting in 10 of the last 14 games after not achieving the feat over the first 13 games... MSU has limited the opposition to less than a point per field goal attempt four times this season... Midwestern State has shot 40 percent or better in 14 of its last 16 games after shooting less than 40 percent in seven its first 11 games... Midwestern State has shot better than 50 percent from the field five times this season... The Mustangs have connected on 10 3-pointers in four of their last eight games after managing 10 3-pointers just three times in the first 18 games of the season... HEAD COACH JUSTIN LESLIE is in his third season at the helm of the Midwestern State men's basketball program. The Mustangs battled to an 8-21 mark in 2019-20 but closed the regular season by winning four out of five games to qualify for the Lone Star Conference Postseason Tournament. MSU also closed the 2020-21 regular season with four straight wins advancing the LSC Postseason Tournament for the second straight year with an 11-8 overall record. Prior to MSU, Leslie posted a 266-121 overall record (.687) at Azusa Pacific leading the Cougars to nine 20-win campaigns, two Pacific West Conference titles, seven postseason tournament appearance and an NCAA Division II Elite Eight showing in 2015. Overall, Leslie owns a 298-164 mark (.645) in 15 seasons as a collegiate head coach including a 32-43 record (.427) at MSU.

SCOUTING THE EAGLES

Oklahoma Christian has lost its last three games and five of its last six... The Eagles were schedule to face DBU on Thursday, but the game was cancelled due to poor travel conditions... OC is tied for 14th in the LSC with a league mark of 4-10 and has been eliminated from postseason contention... Sophomore guard Drew Tennial leads Oklahoma Christian averaging 13 points and 7.2 rebounds per game... Tennial is third in the LSC and 86th in NCAA Division II with 1.76 steals per game... Sophomore Moun'Tae Edmundson scores 12.4 points per game shooting 45.8 percent from the field and 41.9 percent from the arc (44-for-105)... Sophomore forward Nyk Madison adds 10.6 points and 3.9 rebounds per game while shooting 52.9 percent from the field... Madison ranks second in the LSC and 35th in NCAA Division II blocking 1.6 shots per game...

HEAD COACH KENDRE TALLEY possesses a 24-46 overall record (.343) in his third season at the helm at his alma mater. Talley competed for legendary Oklahoma Christian coach Dan Hays from 2010-14 earning National Christian College Athletic Association All-America and All-Heartland Conference first-team honors as a senior. He is the only player in Heartland history to lead the NCAA Division II league in three major stat categories -- scoring (17.5 points per game), assists (5.9 per game) and steals (2.0 per game).

ABOUT THE SERIES

Midwestern State and Oklahoma Christian meet for the 41st time on the hardwood Saturday afternoon at D.L. Ligon Coliseum. The Mustangs lead the overall series which dates back to the 1961-62 season by a 26-14 margin. MSU won seven of the last nine meetings dating back to the 1992-93 season, but OC has won three of the last five meetings including a 72-64 victory earlier this season at the Eagles' Nest (12/2). Midwestern State is 9-3 all-time against Oklahoma Christian at D.L. Ligon Coliseum. The Mustangs have won the last four games against OC in Wichita Falls. The Eagles' last victory at Ligon Coliseum came on Nov. 30, 1982 (86-73).

UP NEXT

Midwestern State will host a Lone Star Conference Postseason Tournament first round game Tuesday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum with a tip time of 7 p.m. unless the Mustangs win and both West Texas A&M and Texas A&M-Commerce lose on Saturday. In that scenario, MSU receives a first round bye and will play a quarterfinal game Thursday night at Comerica Center in Frisco. Tipoff would be at 8:30 p.m.
