WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Lexi Beck scored her third goal of the season against the run of play in the 25th minute, and Midwestern State went on to defeat Angelo State in the regular season finale at Stang Park on Saturday afternoon, 2-0.
Angelo State dominated possession early in the match and had Midwestern State stuck in its defensive third. Reagan Urbany hit the right post with a shot in the 5th minute. The Rambelles would take the first four shots of the match.
Alyssa Salinas made a run up the left channel and delivered a pass to
Olivia Okoye, who headed the ball to the feet of Beck. The sophomore midfielder settled the ball in the middle of the box and blasted a shot past Angelo State goalkeeper Kia Miller into the upper right portion of the net to give MSU the lead.
Midwestern State began dominating play from that point and would extend its lead in the 39th minute.
Salinas sent a ball to the back post from the left wing, and
Isabella Cruz volleyed in her third goal of the season to put the Mustangs ahead, 2-0. Salinas has four assists this season for Midwestern State.
Angelo State outshot the Mustangs in the second half, 6-1, but could not get anything past goalkeeper
Lexi Jackson, who recorded her fifth clean sheet of the season. Jackson made two saves for the Mustangs.
The Rambelles hit the woodwork once in each half, but were shut out for only the second time this season. It was only the third time this season that Angelo State conceded multiple goals in a match.
Midwestern State improved to 8-8-1 overall and 5-6-1 in conference play. Angelo State is 13-3-2 overall and 8-3-1 in the LSC.
