Mustangs begin final road trip of the season in Kingsville and face Javelinas

KINGSVILLE, Texas -- Midwestern State embarks on its final road trip of the season and pays a visit to the Steinke Center for a Lone Star Conference clash with Texas A&M–Kingsville. The match gets underway Friday at 6 p.m.

LAST MEETING | Texas A&M–Kingsville ended the Mustangs three-match winning streak overall with a 25-17, 26-24, 25-20 victory at Steinke Center last season. The Mustangs suffered their sixth-straight loss at Kingsville, where MSU has not won a match since 2013. Lauryn Bourne had a team-high 10 kills for Midwestern State, which hit .047 for the match. Bourne also led the Mustangs with eight digs. Regan Willms had 12 assists for Midwestern State, and Autumn Roach finished with 11 assists and two aces. Jackie Alanis had 11 kills and two blocks for the Javelinas, who hit .542 in the first set and finished the match hitting .303. Sydney Whitmire had 22 assists and seven digs in the victory for TAMUK. Nicole Murff had a match-high 18 digs for the Javelinas.

LAST TIME OUT | East Central's Nyah Walker finished with a game-high 15 kills to lead the Tigers to a 25-22, 27-25, 25-23 sweep over Midwestern State in a non-conference meeting Saturday afternoon at D.L. Ligon Coliseum. The senior from Bryant, Texas, committed a single error on 38 swings for a .368 hitting percentage to provide the different in three hotly contested sets. Senior Taylor Anderson paced the MSU attack with 11 kills while committing just three errors on 24 swings to finish with a .333 attack percentage, while Ell and Sadie Portmann had eight kills each. MSU freshman Taygon Jones led the Mustangs' backrow efforts with 22 digs, while Portmann had 17.
