WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- East Central's Nyah Walker finished with a game-high 15 kills to lead the Tigers to a 25-22, 27-25, 25-23 sweep over Midwestern State in a non-conference meeting Saturday afternoon at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
The senior from Bryant, Texas, committed a single error on 38 swings for a .368 hitting percentage to provide the different in three hotly contested sets.
Walker turned away an MSU set point in the second stanza with a kill, then combined with Aloni Jordan on a block to give ECU a set point of its own.
Midwestern State's Alliyah Burras put down one of six kills for the match to pull the Mustangs even, but ECU capitalized on a service error to put away the set 27-25 on a Jada Abercrombie kill.
MSU rallied from three points down in the third set for a 22-22 tie on the strength of a pair of kills by sophomore middle hitter
Alex Serna and another
Kelli Ell, ECU scored three of the final four points clinching the win on another kill by Abercrombie, who had seven kills and no errors on 23 attempts for the Tigers.
Senior
Taylor Anderson paced the MSU attack with 11 kills while committing just three errors on 24 swings to finish with a .333 attack percentage, while Ell and
Sadie Portmann had eight kills each.
MSU freshman
Taygon Jones led the Mustangs' backrow efforts with 22 digs, while Portmann had 17.
Midwestern State (6-19) hits the road to play Texas A&M-Kingsville Friday night at Steinke Center. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
East Central improved to 13-14.
