Mustangs host TWU to begin a three-match homestand

WICHITA FALLS, Texas --Midwestern State makes its fifth appearance at D.L. Ligon Coliseum this season as it hosts Texas Woman's for a Lone Star Conference clash Wednesday at 6 p.m.

LAST MEETING | Texas Woman's rolled to its eighth consecutive win beating Midwestern State 20-25, 25-18, 25-15, 25-18 in the finale of the Lone Star Conference Crossover at Kitty Magee Arena on Sept. 10. Midwestern State took it to the Pioneers in the opening set putting down 17 kills with a .200 hitting percentage, but the Mustangs hit .083 in the final three sets. Senior Taylor Anderson needed just 24 swings to record a season-high 15 kills with three errors for a .500 hitting percentage, while senior middle hitter Aaliyah Burras logged 14 kills. MSU freshman Taygon Jones led back row efforts with 18 digs, while sophomore Amy DeWalt had 10.

LAST TIME OUT | Midwestern State made hustle plays forcing UT Tyler into long rallies, then fought off four match points Saturday afternoon at the Louise Herrington Patriot Center. But, in the end, the effort wasn't enough to offset a stellar offensive performance by UT Tyler as the Patriots rolled to a 25-21, 25-11, 25-21 victory. Senior middle hitter Aaliyah Burras paced the Mustangs with seven kills and three blocks, while sophomore outside hitter Kelli Ell finished with six kills with no errors on 22 swings. Freshman Taygon Jones led backrow efforts with 17 digs, while fellow frosh Sadie Portmann notched 12 digs, and Arrianna Fields was also in on three blocks.
