Mustangs visit conference-leading St. Mary's in pivotal LSC match

WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Midwestern State battles LSC leading and No. 8-ranked St. Mary's Wednesday evening at Sigma Beta Chi Field in San Antonio. Kickoff is set for 5:30 p.m.

LAST MEETING | Mere Escobar and Toi Yamaoka scored goals for Midwestern State in the Lone Star Conference Tournament semifinal as the Mustangs defeated the Rattlers, 2-1. St. Mary's outshot MSU, 13-8, but only had one more shot on goal, 6-5. Escobar gave Midwestern State an early lead, scoring three minutes into the contest. Yamaoka was assisted by James Doyle in the 18th minute to give the Mustangs a 2-0 advantage. Lewis Wilson was issued a red card in the 74th minutes and the Rattlers fell a man down, but Alonso Rodriguez scored for St. Mary's 30 seconds later to make it a one-goal game. Marc-Antoine Huzen made four saves in the victory for Midwestern State. Raul Guillamon-Bejar finished with four saves for the Rattlers.

LAST TIME OUT | Texas A&M International's Robin Verhoeven made five saves to make a single goal off of a counter stand for a 1-0 win over Midwestern State Saturday night at Stang Park. Texas A&M International cashed in on a counterattack in the 77th minute when Nico Weigandt found space down the right attacking channel to loft a cross to the far post. TAMIU senior Tajani Fairclough stretched for a one-timer for his second goal of the season. The Mustangs controlled a 17-12 edge in shots and a 9-1 advantage in corner kick opportunities, but were unable to slide the ball through a packed defensive third. MSU controlled possession for 64 percent of the match and produced several dangerous chances, but Verhoeven was up for the challenge.
