King sets assist record in MSU 79-73 win over St. Mary's

WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Midwestern State went undefeated in the week after posting a hard fought 79-73 win over St. Mary's on Saturday. Morgan Lenahan and Hannah Reynolds each recorded 24 points in the victory while Frances King clinched her first double-double of the season. The Mustangs move to 7-5 on the year and 2-1 in Lone Star Conference play.

MSU and StMU started the game neck-in-neck until the Mustangs pulled away with a six-point lead. Lehanan knocked down four from the field and four from the line while adding a three to top the home side with 13 points in the first half.

Reynolds was a perfect six of six from the field to come up just behind Lenahan with 12 points. By the end of the game, the forward tied her career-high of 24 points last tallied in 2020 against Texas A&M-Commerce. Reynolds was just shy of collecting a double-double as she notched nine rebounds for the match.

Sydney Hardeman went three of five from deep to lead the visitors with nine points. The guard added two more in the second half to post second on the team with 15 points. Hardeman added six boards and four assists for StMU.

As a team, the Rattlers shot 55 percent from behind the arc and held Midwestern State to just 37 percent shooting from deep. However, MSU took 51 percent shooting from the floor and stopped St. Mary's at 48 percent to help them go into halftime up by 40-39.

Lenahan added eight more points in the third quarter to help the home side out-match the Rattlers 17-12. The guard concluded the game shooting 50 percent from the floor and 60 percent from the arc. She also drained five of six free throws and grabbed six boards.

Although MSU shot 43 percent from the floor in the third period, they held StMU to just 28 percent shooting. This was the lowest for the visitors for the entire game. Each team was 40 percent from range and 50 percent from the charity stripe.

Both teams also put up 22 points in the final period of play. King dropped six of eight free throws in the fourth and was three of nine from the field for the game. In her double-double performance, the sophomore registered 13 points and set the single game record for assists with 16. She overtook Mindy Myer's 1994 record of 13 helpers.

Shawnisay Millar, Sheridan Bostic and Eternity Jackson each contributed four points in the win. Millar added four boards while Bostic and Sifaoui each grabbed two.

In her ninth double-double of the season, Hannah Wilson topped the Rattlers with 17 points, hitting 7 of 17 from the floor. The graduate senior collected 11 rebounds and added a block. Christina Baker was five for six from the field and totaled 11 points for St. Mary's, who slip to 1-12.
