Midwestern State lost its fourth straight game to drop to 4-9 on the season and 0-2 in Lone Star Conference losing 69-68 at UT Tyler on Sunday... The four-game losing streak is the longest since the Mustangs dropped six consecutive games from Jan. 16-Feb. 5, 2021... Midwestern State sports a 2-3 record at D.L. Ligon Coliseum this season...  The Mustangs rank 17th in the Lone Star Conference in team field goal percentage (39.6 percent) and 17th in team 3-point field goal percentage (27.5 percent)... MSU snapped a run of seven consecutive games of shooting less than 30 percent from the arc by connecting of 10-of-19 (52.6 percent) from 3-point range at UT Tyler (1/2)... The Mustangs enjoyed their second best shooting performance of the season shooting 46.4 percent from the field and 52.6 percent from the arc against UT Tyler (1/2)... HEAD COACH JUSTIN LESLIE is in his third season at the helm of the Midwestern State men's basketball program. The Mustangs battled to an 8-21 mark in 2019-20 but closed the regular season by winning four out of five games to qualify for the Lone Star Conference Postseason Tournament. MSU also closed the 2020-21 regular season with four straight wins advancing the LSC Postseason Tournament for the second straight year with an 11-8 overall record. Prior to MSU, Leslie posted a 266-121 overall record (.687) at Azusa Pacific leading the Cougars to nine 20-win campaigns, two Pacific West Conference titles, seven postseason tournament appearance and an NCAA Division II Elite Eight showing in 2015. Overall, Leslie owns a 289-159 mark (.645) in 15 seasons as a collegiate head coach including a 23-38 record (.377) at MSU.

St. Edward's has posted an 8-5 record against the 18th toughest schedule in NCAA Division II... The Hilltoppers' opposition has posted a combined 72-41 record this season (.637)... SEU has won three of its last five games with home losses to Texas A&M-Kingsville and UT Permian Basin... The Hilltoppers are 3-3 away from the Recreation and Athletics Center this season splitting two true road games... St. Edward's leads the Lone Star Conference in scoring offense (81.8 ppg / 51st in D2) and 3-point field goals per game (10.2 / 23rd in D2)... The Hilltoppers are second in the LSC and sixth nationally with an 81.1 free throw percentage... Senior guard Daniel Venzant ranks second in the LSC in scoring (20.2 ppg) and steals per game (1.92)... Venzant has scored at least 20 points seven times this season with a high of 38 points in 38 minutes against Texas A&M-Kingsville (12/18)... Senior guard Uche Dibiamaka scores 14.2 points per game netting double figures in each of his last five games... Junior forward Mason Hix is averaging 13.4 points per game while hitting 14 3-pointers (35 percent) over his last eight games... HEAD COACH ANDRE COOK sports a 211-147 record (.589) in his 13th season at the helm of the St. Edward's program. During Cook's tenure, the Hilltoppers posted 20 wins on three occasions and reached the NCAA Division II regionals in 2015, 2019 and 2020. Prior to taking over the St. Edward's program, Cook posted a 119-40 record (.748) at Hudson Valley Community College in Troy, New York over five seasons from 2004-09.

ABOUT THE SERIES

Midwestern State and St. Edward's meet for the 28th time on the hardwood Thursday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum. The Mustangs leads the series which dates back to the 1959-60 season, 17-10. St. Edward's has won two of the three meetings since the Hilltoppers joined the Lone Star Conference with all games played at D.L. Ligon Coliseum. SEU rolled to a 98-60 win on Jan. 9, 2020 before the teams split games last season. MSU won 92-81 on Jan. 2, 2021 before Hilltoppers rallied to take a 112-105 win over overtime the next day. Midwestern State is 10-3 against St. Edward's all-time in games played at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
