ODESSA, Texas -- Midwestern State takes on UT Permian Basin in a Lone Star Conference game Saturday afternoon at Falcon Dome. Tipoff is set for 4 p.m.

Midwestern State fell 75-73 to Angelo State Thursday night at Junell Center to drop to 5-11 on the season and 1-4 in Lone Star Conference play... The Mustangs have lost six of their last seven games... MSU's last three losses have come by a combined seven points including a 69-68 loss at UT Tyler (1/2), a 59-55 loss to St. Mary's (1/8) and a 75-73 loss at Angelo State (1/13)... The Mustangs have held their last four opponents to under their season scoring averages... MSU enjoyed its second best team shooting performance of the season going 47.5 percent from the field Thursday night at Angelo State... The Mustangs have shot better than 40 percent as a team in four of the last five games and are shooting 43 percent from the field and 35 percent from the arc during the stretch beginning at Texas A&M-Commerce on New Year's Eve... The MSU bench matched its highest scoring output of the season combining for 34 points Thursday at Angelo State including career highs by Amaechi Chukwu (16 points) and John Weger (9 points)... Midwestern State ranks 17th in the LSC in team field goal percentage (40.1 percent) and 17th in team 3-point field goal percentage (28.2 percent)... MSU ranks second in the LSC and 14th in NCAA Division II pulling down 14.0 offensive rebounds per game resulting in 191 second chance points in 16 games (11.9 per game)... Midwestern State projects to play the 17th toughest schedule in NCAA Division II with its past and future opposition combining for a .601 winning percentage...

ranks 29th in the Lone Star Conference in scoring with 12.0 points per game while averaging 2.9 rebounds and 2.6 assists in 26.8 minutes over 16 games this season... scored in double figures 10 times this season and in eight of his last 11 games...  connected on at least two 3-pointers in eight games... poured in a career-high 28 points on 10-of-16 shooting going 6-of-6 from the arc at UT Tyler (1/2)... went for 21 points with five assists and two steals in a win over Colorado State-Pueblo (11/13)... led team in scoring five times including his 28 points at UT Tyler, 21 points against Colorado State-Pueblo, 16 versus Minnesota-Crookston (11/27), 14 points against Central Oklahoma (11/20) and 18 against UT Tyler (12/13)... scored 12 of his 14 points in the second half against Texas A&M-Commerce (12/31)... scored 600th career point at UT Tyler (1/2)...

averages 4.9 points and ranks fifth in the Lone Star Conference pulling down 6.9 rebounds in 23.1 minutes over 16 starts... grabbed at least seven rebounds in 10 games this season including a high of 15 rebounds against St. Edward's (1/6)... pulling down 9.5 rebounds over a six-game stretch from Dec. 13 against UT Tyler through Jan. 8 against St. Mary's... shooting 45.0 percent from the arc for the season (9-of-20)... connected on two 3-pointers in consecutive games going 2-for-2 at Texas A&M-Commerce (12/31) and 2-for-3 against UT Tyler (1/2)... scored season-high 10 points and grabbed eight rebounds in a win over Colorado State-Pueblo (11/13)...

Pierre Sanders // Sophomore // Guard // Hutto, Texas

averages 9.6 points, 5.1 rebounds and 2.4 assists in 26.9 minutes over 11 games... scored in double figures four times... missed five games due to injury from the Nov. 30 game at Cameron through the Dec. 16 game against Texas A&M-Commerce... splashed in a season-high 17 points on 5-of-11 shooting with seven rebounds at Northern State (11/26)... finished with 13 points and nine rebounds in a win over Colorado State-Pueblo (11/13)... buried a season-high three 3-pointers and went 5-for-9 from the field to finish with 15 points and seven rebounds against St. Mary's (1/8)... 

HEAD COACH JUSTIN LESLIE is in his third season at the helm of the Midwestern State men's basketball program. The Mustangs battled to an 8-21 mark in 2019-20 but closed the regular season by winning four out of five games to qualify for the Lone Star Conference Postseason Tournament. MSU also closed the 2020-21 regular season with four straight wins advancing the LSC Postseason Tournament for the second straight year with an 11-8 overall record. Prior to MSU, Leslie posted a 266-121 overall record (.687) at Azusa Pacific leading the Cougars to nine 20-win campaigns, two Pacific West Conference titles, seven postseason tournament appearance and an NCAA Division II Elite Eight showing in 2015. Overall, Leslie owns a 290-161 mark (.643) in 15 seasons as a collegiate head coach including a 24-40 record (.375) at MSU.

SCOUTING THE FALCONS

UT Permian Basin has lost its last three games to fall to 9-6 on the season and 1-2 in Lone Star Conference play... Prior to the slide, the Falcons won five straight games and six of seven from Dec. 2-Jan. 2... Senior guard Jordan Horn leads a trio of Falcons averaging in double figures pouring in 16.7 points per game shooting 47.4 percent from the field, 38.2 percent from the arc and 90.9 percent (30-of-33) from the free-throw line... Horn, who ranks fourth in the LSC in scoring, has tallied in double figures in 13 of 15 games including four games with at least 20 points... Senior guard DaJuan Jones scores 14.4 points, while topping the LSC and ranking second in NCAA Division II dishing out 7.9 assists per game... Senior guard Miles Daniels adds 14.3 points per game shooting 45.1 percent from the arc while ranking second in the LSC and 21st in NCAA Division II with 3.4 made 3-pointers per game... The UTPB roster features seven student-athletes that transferred along with coach Kyle Tolin from Arkansas-Monticello including Miles Daniels, DaJuan Jones, Keyon Craddock, Alvarez Powell, Max Warren, Lemmie Howard and Kendal Frey... The Boll Weevils are 8-4 this season and are currently third in the Great American Conference...

HEAD COACH KYLE TOLIN is 9-6 in his first season at the helm of the UT Permian Basin men's basketball program. Prior to UTPB, Tolin guided Arkansas-Monticello to an NCAA Division II regional postseason appearance in 2017 while leading the Boll Weevils to a 108-89 record (.548) over seven seasons from 2014-21. Overall, Tolin is 117-95 (.552) in his eighth season as a collegiate head coach. Tolin scored more than 1,000 points during his playing days at Oklahoma Baptist before serving as an assistant coach at his alma mater eventually helping the Bison to three straight Sooner Athletic Conference titles from 2010-12.

ABOUT THE SERIES

Midwestern State and UT Permian Basin meet for the 15th time on the hardwood Saturday afternoon at Falcon Dome. UTPB leads the series which dates back to the 2007-08 season by an 8-6 margin. The Mustangs, however, swept the series last season by claiming the program's first win in six tries in Odessa with a 71-61 victory on Feb. 27.
