WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Lone Star Conference play is here for No. 10 Midwestern State as the team takes on No. 5 West Texas A&M in a mid-week match-up. Kick-off is set for 7 p.m. for the rivals as they go head-to-head at Stang Park.

Trevor Amann has had quite the year, tallying six goals and two assists in six games, leading the Lone Star Conference and seventh in NCAA Division II. The forward amounted 28 shots with 11 landing on frame to lead the Mustangs offensively. His 4.67 shots per game sits second in the LSC and ninth in the nation. Amann tallied two-goal matches against Missouri S&T (9/02) and Rogers State (9/11) and clutched the game-winners in both games. The clinchers earns him second in the conference and fourth in DII. On his career, the senior recorded 18 goals and seven assists for 43 points over three seasons. Amann notched 103 shots with 47 going on goal in 2167 minutes on the field. He has four game winners to his name thus far.

Carlos Flores holds second for MSU with 12 points on the season, which is split into four goals and four assists. His helpers leads the Lone Star Conference and lands tenth in NCAA Division II while his four goals gets third in the conference. For points, Flores gains second behind Amann for the LSC and is 17th for DII. The midfielder registered 12 shots with six going on-goal for a .500 shot on goal percent. In 500 minutes, Flores collected one game winning goal against Westminster (9/16). In his career, the senior has amassed 26 assists, which earns eighth in the Mustangs' all-time record book, sitting one away from Jake Joy's record of 27 helpers from 1994-96. With his 111 career shots, Flores almost inks his name on the career shots record books, needing just one to tie Anthony Ramirez (2001-04) and Ahmad Ihmeidan's (2004-08) 112 attempts.

Marc-Antoine Huzen is a steady figure for Midwestern State, starting in goal in all six matches. In 540 minutes, the senior allowed three goals for a 0.50 goals against average. His GAA is second best in the Lone Star Conference and eleventh best in NCAA Division II. Huzen collected 16 saves in 44 shots faced for a 0.842 save percent, good for third in the LSC and 19th in the NCAA. The keeper has six wins and four shutouts on his name. Huzen registered 28 saves in his career as a Mustang in 67 shots faced. Overall, he has seven goals against with 12 wins and nine shutouts.Â
4 |Â In the Mustangs' 6-0 season, the team has made quite a splash in the Lone Star Conference. With 2.83 assists per game, MSU leads the conference and sits sixth in NCAA Division II. The team also tops the LSC with 9.83 points per game, which earns them fifth in the NCAA. Midwestern State's 3.50 scoring offense gets fifth in the nation while sitting first in the Lone Star. Huzen and the Mustangs notched a 0.667 shutout percentage for first in the conference and seventh in Division II. The three other categories that MSU sits first in the conference include: total assists (17), total goals (21) and total points (59).Â
5 | Midwestern State was recently named to the top ten of the United Soccer Coaches College Rankings. In the first poll of the season, the Mustangs claimed the 23rd spot and quickly moved up the ranks from there. With defeats over No. 25 Northeastern State and No. 9 Rogers State, MSU were selected to No. 18 for the second poll of 2021. The team continued the climb after claiming victories against Westminster and No. 19 Simon Fraser in the MSU Classic. Now at No. 10, Midwestern State will compete in a battle of the ten against No. 5 West Texas A&M.
HEAD COACH MICHAEL MEACHUMÂ is in the midst of his fourth season as head coach at Midwestern State and his 10th overall in Wichita Falls. He served the first seven years as top assistant for
Doug Elder. During that time, Meachum helped the Mustangs reach two NCAA Division II South Central Region finals and to the national quarterfinals. Meachum boasts a 43-9-4 record (.804) since taking the reins of the program prior to the 2018 season. He has led the Mustangs to the 2018 Heartland Conference title, the 2019 Lone Star Conference postseason tournament crown and to two NCAA Division II postseason appearances in 2018 and 2019. Prior to MSU, Meachum served as an assistant at NAIA Bethany College (Kan.) and Hastings (Neb.), at Division I Oral Roberts and Division II Northeastern State.
SERIES WITH THE BUFFS
Midwestern State and West Texas A&M began the series back in 1975 when the Mustangs pulled out a 6-1 victory. In the 46 years to follow, MSUÂ collected a 35-20-4 record against WT, gaining a 17-8-2 record at home in Stang Park. In conference play, the Mustangs hold a slight advantage winning 15 matches and the Buffs gaining 14 with three draws. The most recent battle was in the 2020 Lone Star Conference final where West Texas A&M took home the trophy after defeating Midwestern State 1-0 in Canyon, Texas. In the regular season of 2020, the Mustangs overcame the No. 6 Buffs in a 2-1 win at home.
