Heaton claims double OT winner against East Central

ADA, Okla. -- Randi Heaton claimed the 1-0 win for Midwestern State with her 110 minute goal against East Central. The Mustangs move to a 3-2 record for the 2021 season with Lone Star Conference play coming up.

MSU tallied 18 first half shots while keeping ECU at bay with seven. McKenna Leveling conducted nine saves while Taylor Camp made five to keep the score level. Lexi Beck notched a career-high seven shots to lead the Mustangs in the match and in the season with 15. The freshman has eight shots on target for a 0.533 shots on goal percent. Abbie Morris tallied five attempts for East Central.

The Mustangs continued their go to goal in the second half, tallying ten shots against the Tigers. Isabella Cruz and Emilia Nunez each registered three shots on-goal. This was Nunez's season-high while Cruz achieved the feat against Colorado School of Mines (9/10). Camp provided five more saves to tally ten on the match after not making any in overtime.

For East Central's second half, the Tigers registered eight shots versus MSU with Leveling knocking down seven saves. Morris, Cambori Watson and Lorianne Baugh each notched two shots on goal for the home side. After 90 minutes, both teams stayed tied and headed into overtime.

Midwestern State put up two shots in the first overtime period and four in the second before Heaton recorded the game-winning goal. The senior had only one shot in her 66 minutes on the field for her fourth career goal.

ECU recorded two shots in the first period of overtime and three in the second before the final whistle. Leveling made four more saves for her team.

At the end of the game, MSU had 34 shots with 21 on frame while the Tigers had 20 attempts with ten on goal. Camp registered a career-high ten saves on the night and Leveling made 20.

Midwestern State starts Lone Star Conference play against St. Edward's on Saturday, Sept. 25. The match will kick-off at 3 p.m. in Stang Park in Wichita Falls, Texas.
