LAREDO, Texas -- Midwestern State continues their winning roll as they defeat Texas A&M International on the road by 3-2 (17-25, 34-32, 24-22, 22-25, 15-12). The Mustangs are now 3-6 on the season overall as they collect their first Lone Star Conference win for 2021.

MSU started slow in set one, dropping 17-25 to TAMIU.
Lissette Lefforge recorded two kills in the first set and added a block assist. Overall, the senior tallied 13 kills and one service ace. She also added one solo block and four block assists on the night. The Dustdevils notched a .314 attack percent to start the match with Carly Unruh putting down three of four attacks.
Set two was wild as the two teams battled to clinch, but the Mustangs won out in the end by 34-32.
Kaitlynn Stoker went off to smash six of the Mustangs' 18 kills for the set. On the night, the right side hitter registered a career-best 16 kills for 16 points. Texas A&M International was held to a .138 hitting percent with Sammantha Herrera catching nine kills for the home side.
"We reset after a slow first set and dialed in to play MSU volleyball," said Armstrong.
Set three was more Mustang style as the team walked away with the 25-22 victory.
Lauryn Bourne collected four of her 14 total kills in the set and added a block assist. The sophomore led both teams with 29 digs, a career-high for the outside hitter. Ariana Guerra put up five kills in the set for the Dustdevils.
Midwestern State tried to clinch the game in set four but were halted by TAMIU's 25-22 topple.
Hannah Moore tallied four kills and one service ace to push the Mustangs close. The junior had her best night of the season by grabbing ten kills and 18 digs overall.
Amy DeWalt also made her career-high with 24 digs on the back line. Mackenzie Catalina made three of her 19 kills to help the home side overcome and push to five sets.
Regan Willms took the final set in her own hands and landed two service aces against Texas A&M International to clutch the 15-12 defeat. The freshman notched five aces and 16 assists while
Autumn Roach added 38 helpers, the best of her career.
"I'm proud of the effort and no quit attitude until the very end," said Armstrong.
Midwestern State looks to continue their winning efforts in Saturday's match at Texas A&M-Kingsville. The Lone Star Conference game kicks off at 6 p.m. at the Steinke Center in Kingsville, Texas. Live stats and video are available online.
