No. 12-ranked Mustangs continue dominant run against LSC with sweep of Texas A&M-Kingsville

WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- No. 17 Midwestern State continued its dominance over Lone Star Conference competition this season with a 7-0 sweep of Texas A&M-Kingsville Thursday afternoon at the MSU Tennis Center.
 
With the win, the Mustangs improved to 10-5 on the season and 6-0 in league play while extending their winning streak to three matches. MSU has now won 10 of its last 11 against NCAA Division II competition.
 
Midwestern wasted little time grasping control of the doubles' point with the 14th-ranked duo of Tiffany Hollebeck and Casie Curry getting the team out on the right foot with a 6-0 win over Laura Montalvo and Maya Donkor at the No. 1 line.
 
Sophomore Emilija Visic and Anda Ghinga clinched the point for the Mustangs while improving to 12-2 as a team with a 6-2 victory over Alessa Miller and Raina Zaffar at the No. 2 line.
 
Sophomore Ethne Dowling and freshman Emily Ineson completed the doubles sweep with a 6-4 win over Milou ter Morsche and Jana Knaab at No. 3.
 
Midwestern State gained even more momentum with a surge from the top of the order. Hollebeck and Ghinga, who both received national singles' rankings earlier in the afternoon used straight-set victories to put the Mustangs on the brink of clinching.
 
The 34th-ranked Hollebeck beat Donkor -- 6-0, 6-4 -- at No. 1, while 45th-ranked Ghinga blew past Montalvo -- 6-0, 6-3 -- at No. 2.
 
Freshman Skylar Minns clinched with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Knaab at No. 6 before Visic claimed her team-best, sixth straight singles win taking Zaffar 6-4, 6-1 at No. 4.
 
Dowling extended her personal win streak to five matches with a 6-2, 6-3 win over ter Morsche at No. 5, while Curry outlasted Maier in a super tiebreak (10-8) after splitting sets -- 3-6, 6-4.
 
Midwestern State has now won 39 of its 42 total matchups against Lone Star Conference competition, but faces is biggest challenge on Saturday.
 
The Mustangs take on 12th-ranked Angelo State at the MSU Tennis Center. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
