WICHITA FALLS, Texas – The rain and clouds could not stop Midwestern State from ending the regular season on a high note as the team overtook St. Mary's. The neck-and-neck play ended with MSU up 4-3 at MSU Tennis Center highlighted by Anda Ghinga's win over No. 39 Maria Garcia in three sets. The victory puts the team at 12-7 overall record and 8-1 in the Lone Star Conference.

The Mustangs gained the lead from the start with gaining the doubles point. Emilia Visic and Ghinga played to ta 6-2 defeat over Marina Vigil and Alice Thane. The pair won their 13thh competition this season at the second doubles line.

The No. 14 duo of Tiffany Hollebeck and Casie Curry followed suit by overtaking Ashley Penshorn and Garcia. The first doubles spot ended with a 7-0 superset tiebreaker to clinch the point for the home side.

Kyndall Quiroz and Ethne Dowling almost made it a trifecta. Gabi Ioannou and Abigail Csengery took three doubles 7-5 to wrap up partner play. Midwestern State stood up one point as the Rattlers gained steam.

Marina Vigil evened the score by winning over Curry at the third singles line. Vigil got set one in a 7-4 superset tiebreaker and took set two 6-1.

St. Mary's pushed ahead with another singles win, this time at the top spot. No. 34 Hollebeck had only her sixth singles loss when No. 25 Penshorn gained the 6-1, 7-5 victory. Down by one, MSU started gearing up again.

Quiroz brought another tie with her win over Ioannou. The freshman notched set one by a 7-3 superset tiebreaker and set two by a 6-4 score. Quiroz gained her seventh singles win for the year.

The Mustangs took the lead once more with No. 45 Ghinga's upset over No. 39 Garcia. The two pushed to three sets with Ghinga taking home the first, 7-5. Garcia came back in set two with a 6-1 win. Ghinga finished it off to hold Garcia at two points while she gained six in the second singles line.

Dowling clinched the W for MSU in her 6-2, 6-1 takeover at the six singles spot. The sophomore ran out Csengery to hand the Rattlers their fifth loss of the season and second for LSC play.

The match finished with Elena Munoz beating Visic in three set play. Munoz took set one 6-3, while Visic shut down set two 6-0. In the final superset tiebreaker, Visic narrowly fell 8-10. This gave SMU their third point of the match while Midwestern State finished with four.

 The Mustangs will look to secure their fourth straight Lone Star Conference Championship beginning Thursday at the Waco Regional Tennis and Fitness Center. The draw is set for release later this week.
