WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Midwestern State's victorious 3-0 run has come to an end. The Mustangs fell 2-3 (25-22, 25-27, 17-25, 25-15, 8-15) against Arkansas-Fort Smith on Wednesday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum. The team went 1-1 in the series.
The Mustangs started the first set with the upper hand, propelled by kills by freshman outside hitter
Keetyn Davis. Davis and senior middle blocker
Lissette Lefforge led MSU in points with 12.5 each. A 6-1 run helped the home team to the win.
The second set was neck-in-neck to start. Junior outside hitter
Taylor Anderson and senior right side hitter
Raven Presley kept Midwestern State just within reach of UAFS. The visitors fought through and pushed a 10-1 run. Lefforge's serves helped her squad reply with a 6-0 run of their own, but it wasn't enough and fell 27-25.
Freshman middle blocker
Alyssa Estrada-Hamby highlighted the third set with three kills. She led the Mustangs in hitting with a .429 hitting percentage. MSU started slow and couldn't catch back up. The third set was 25-17 for the Lady Lions. Sophomore setter
Kaitlyn Masseth recorded four assists in the set and led both teams in assists with 24.
The Mustangs bounced back for the fourth set and won 25-15 to push to a fifth.
Kaitlynn Stoker aided the offense with four kills. The sophomore outside hitter ended the night with ten kills along with Davis and Lefforge. Senior defensive specialist added a service ace and led the team with three.
The final set did not go as Midwestern State hoped as UAFS overcame with kills, led in the night by Reagan Macha with 17 and 21 points.
