Mustangs drop home opener to UCO by only one goal

WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Emily Tincher's long-range goal in the second half was the difference maker in Midwestern State's 0-1 loss to the University of Central Oklahoma at Stang Park. The Sunday afternoon match put the Mustangs at 0-1 for the 2020-21 season.

"I am not mad that we had opportunities, which we did not have in the past," explained head coach Ryan Spence. "Even when we went against the wind, we created just as many as they did."

In total, MSU had six shots in the first half and five in the second. Five of the eleven were on goal against UCO keepers Kaitlyn Asher and Caroline Faulkner. Senior Kelly Cannistra had four shots, with one on goal for the Mustangs and freshman Marissa Resendez tallied two shots, both on goal.

"Today is all finishing for us," said Spence. "We only gave them six shots on goal and you cannot really ask for anything better than that."

The Broncos totaled eleven shots with the Mustang defense holding to only six on goal. The game winner came from Tincher's long shot in the 59th minute to give UCO the win on Sunday. MSU goalie Taylor Camp made five saves in her 90-minute performance.

This is the tenth time since the 1995 season that the Mustangs have dropped their first game of the season and the seventh time that the team has not won their home opener.
