Midwestern State faces improved UT Tyler squad Monday at Ligon Coliseum

WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Midwestern State plays host to UT Tyler in a non-conference matchup Monday afternoon at D.L. Ligon Coliseum. Tipoff is set for 4 p.m.

THREE...DOT...THOUGHTS... 

Midwestern State has won its last 13 consecutive games at D.L. Ligon Coliseum... The home court winning streak matches the longest in program history set previously when MSU won the last two home games of the 1989-90 season then the first 11 of the 1990-91 campaign... MSU's current 13-game home court winning streak started with a 64-60 win over UT Tyler on Feb. 15, 2020... Midwestern State was outrebounded by 21 in Friday's win at UAFS... It was the first time an MSU team was outrebounded by at least 20 boards since falling 107-70 at Texas A&M-Commerce on Jan. 4, 2020... It was the second time the Mustangs were outrebounded by 20 boards since the 2009-10 season... It was the first time Midwestern State won a game in which it was out-rebounded by 20 since beating Angelo State 68-67 on Nov. 27, 2001 in a game it was outrebounded by 21... MSU had lost the last eight games it was out-rebounded by at least 20 boards by an average margin of 19.6 points... Midwestern State ranks second in the Lone Star Conference and 14th in NCAA Division II blocking 5.3 shots per game... The Mustangs have blocked at least five shots in five of their seven games this season including a high of seven swats against Cameron and Oklahoma Christian... MSU turned the ball over a season low 17 times Friday at UAFS... The Mustangs rank 291 out of 297 in NCAA Division II averaging 26.7 turnovers per game...

ranks fourth in the Lone Star Conference and 66th in NCAA Division II in scoring at 17.8 points per game... is third in the LSC and 77th nationally dishing out 4.0 assists per game... ranks seventh in the LSC in field goal percentage at 45.6.... is fifth in the league with 50 made free throws and 50 free throw attempts... shooting 56.5 percent inside of the 3-point arc for the season (35-of-62) while getting to the free throw line more than seven times per game... scored in double figures in each of MSU's seven games including a career-high 25 points against  Texas Wesleyan (11/28)... also scored 20 point at Oklahoma Baptist (11/23)... coming off of a 15-point game on the strength of going 8-of-8 from the free throw line Friday at UAFS... not credited with a turnover in 39 minutes Friday at UAFS... needs 20 points to reach a career scoring milestone of 500...

ranks second on the team in scoring at 12.6 points per game... ranks ninth in the LSC pulling down 6.7 rebounds per game... leads the LSC and ranks 29th in NCAA Division II with 2.83 steals per game... ranks third in the LSC and 33rd nationally connecting on 86.7 from the charity stripe (26-of-30)... scored in double figures four times including a season-high 28-point outburst with five 3-pointers at Oklahoma Christian... shooting 14-of-26 from the field (53.8 percent) and 5-of-9 from the arc over the past two games... 

Hannah Reynolds // Senior // Forward // Prosper, Texas

averaging 9.8 points and 6.3 rebounds in 30.3 minutes per game... MSU's all-time blocked shots leader also ranks ninth amongst NCAA Division II active career leaders with 174 blocks... ranks second in the Lone Star Conference and eighth in NCAA Division II averaging three blocked shots per game... accounted for at least three blocked shots in each of her last four games including a season-high six swats at Oklahoma Christian... scored in double figures four times this season with a high of 15 points with 11 rebounds against Adams State (11/13)... boasts five collegiate double-doubles (point/rebound)...

HEAD COACH CHRISTOPHER REAY is in his second full season at the helm of his alma mater. In the shortened COVID 2020-21 season and his first year at the reins, Reay guided the Mustangs to an 11-7 overall record while going 11-5 in Lone Star Conference play. The team finished fifth in the standings and reached the quarterfinals in the postseason tournament. In addition, Reay led MSU to a 4-6 mark over the final 10 games in 2019-20 serving in an interim role following Noel Johnson's leave of absence to continue her fight against ovarian cancer. His career coaching record stands at 20-15 (.571). Reay served as the top assistant for 10 campaigns, playing a hand in guiding MSU to three consecutive NCAA Division II South Central Regionals from 2012-15 as MSU claimed a Lone Star Conference regular and postseason tournament titles in 2012-13. Reay competed two seasons at Midwestern State in 2006-07 and 2007-08 after transferring from SMU helping MSU to an LSC postseason tournament championship and a regional semifinal appearance in 2007.

SCOUTING THE PATRIOTS

UT Tyler is experiencing quite a turnaround with a 4-1 start to the 2021-22 campaign... Patriots shook a 27-game losing streak with a season opening 79-59 win over LeTourneau... program had just one win over an NCAA Division II opponent since starting the transition from Division III heading into this season before winning last three against Southern Arkansas, Northeastern State and Arkansas-Monticello... only win over Lone Star Conference opponent came against Texas A&M International (86-79) on Jan. 11, 2020... program has lost last 15 games on the road... last road win was at Texas A&M International... led by three transfers... graduate senior Liah Davis (Colorado State) is fifth in the LSC in scoring at 17.6 points per game and is fourth in the league with 8.4 rebounds per game... Davis boasts a pair of double-doubles with 26 points and 14 rebounds against Henderson State and 22 points and 17 rebounds versus Southern Arkansas... sophomore Destini Whitehead (Panola JC) averages 11.2 points per game, while sophomore Montse Gutierrez (Eastern Wyoming College) adds 10.6 points and 6.6 rebounds per game...

HEAD COACH REBECCA ALVIDREZ has won four of her first five games in her first season at the helm at UT Tyler. She posted a 9-19 mark in her only other experience as a head coach at Adams State (Colo.) in 2013-14, but boasts an impressive resume earning promotion to associate head coach at Stephen F. Austin (2017-21) and at Alaska-Anchorage (2006-12). Alvidrez also gained coaching experience at Otero Junior College (2002-06), Nebraska-Omaha (2012-13) and Colorado State (2014-17). She enjoyed a standout playing career as a two-time All-Big Sky selection at Montana State before earning player of the year honors playing professionally in the Sweden-Basketattan League in 2003.

ABOUT THE SERIES

Midwestern State and UT Tyler meet for the sixth time on the hardwood Monday afternoon at D.L. Ligon Coliseum. The Mustangs have won each of the previous five meetings with four of them coming in Wichita Falls.
