CHICKASHA, Okla. -- Sophomore guard
Pierre Sanders scored 20 points to Midwestern State's balanced scoring effort in a 99-74 exhibition win over NAIA No. 15-ranked Science & Arts (Okla.) Saturday night at Drover Fieldhouse.
The win snapped a 15-game home-court winning streak for USAO, which fell to 2-1 on the season.
Midwestern State overcame an early 13-6 deficit by reeling off 12 consecutive points to take an 18-13 lead on a
Jamey Sanders 3-pointer with 12:09 to play in the first half.
The Mustangs outscored USAO 25-7 over the final eight minutes of the opening half to push the lead to 53-34 at the half.
MSU led by as many as 31 points in the second half.
The hot-shooting Mustangs finished the game at 55.4 percent from the floor connecting on 11-of-28 from the 3-point arc.
Junior
Evan McCarthy drilled three 3-pointers to finish 14 points, while senior
John Weger added 13 points going a perfect 4-for-4 from the field with two triples.
Senior
Luke Hamilton buried two 3-pointers to finish with 12 points, while
Amaechi Chukwu and
Jermane Carter had 10 points each.
Carter also led the Mustangs with eight rebounds.
Cameron Hines paced the Drovers with 18 points, while Gerard Makuntae had 16.
Midwestern State opens the regular season next weekend with the Ashbrook Classic at D.L Ligon Coliseum. The Mustangs take on UC Colorado Springs Friday at 7:30 p.m., then play Colorado State-Pueblo Saturday night at 8.
