King boasts career-high 25 points in MSU 79-72 win over Texas Wesleyan

WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Frances King led the Midwestern State for the second straight game, notching a career-high 25 points in the 79-72 post-holiday win over Texas Wesleyan. The Mustangs maintain a perfect 3-0 at D.L. Ligon Coliseum for the season.

King shot 35 percent from the field and threw down 11 of 13 from the line. The sophomore guard added three steals and four rebounds in her second performance with 20 plus points.

The Mustangs just barely edged the Rams in the opening quarter, taking a one-point lead after the first ten minutes. Texas Wesleyan drained ten of 16 attempts to shoot 62.5 percent from the field.

Sheridan Bostic's four long-range bombs helped the Mustangs overcome the visitors and take the lead. The guard went 4-6 from beyond the arc and collected her first career block.

The Rams dropped their tough shooting in the second quarter, registering only 30 percent from the field and hitting six field goals.

Yasmine Sifaoui and Jordan Mathis played big roles on the night, each tallying a double-double. Sifaoui put up 11 points and 10 boards, going 5-7 from the field. Mathis turned in 11 points and rebounds for the Mustangs.

Midwestern State only led by four going into the final period of the game. Free throws helped propel the Mustangs to victory as they drained 23 of 29 for almost 80 percent. The team recorded their best shooting performance in the fourth quarter, hitting 55 percent from the floor. Shawnisay Millar posted nine points for MSU, going 5-5 from the line and turning in two field goals.

Zaria Carter paced Texas Wesleyan with 20 points, going 10 of 14 from the field and grabbing ten boards. Kertisa Amos added 14 points and six rebounds for the Rams.

Midwestern State hits the road again on Thursday, Dec. 2 to take on a familiar opponent. The Mustangs fight Lone Star Conference foe, Oklahoma Christian in a non-conference match in Oklahoma City, Okla. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. in Payne Athletic Center.
