Slow-starting Mustangs fall 91-70 at Oklahoma Baptist

SHAWNEE, Okla. -- Turnovers hurt Midwestern State once again as the team took their second straight road loss on Tuesday night at Noble Complex as the Mustangs fell 91-70 to Oklahoma Baptist.

MSU had a slow start to the game, putting only seven points on the board in the first quarter. The team was 3-for-10 from the field and added a 3-pointer by Morgan Lenahan, who finished the game with five points, five rebounds and four steals.

Turnovers also hurt the Mustangs as they gave away 12 and the Bison capitalized with 15 points.

MSU made better work in the second quarter, putting down 20 points while OBU took 26. Frances King led the charge with ten. The sophomore ended the night with a season-best and game-high 20 points. King went 8-for-13 from the field and pulled down four rebounds.

The Mustangs came out of halftime on a mission holding Oklahoma Baptist to four points in four minutes while tallying eight. Three steals helped MSU gain traction. Hannah Reynolds scored eight of her 14 points in the third quarter. The senior forward blocked three Bison shots in 30 minutes on the floor.

MSU outscored OBU 20-14 in the third quarter, holding the Bison to just 35 percent from the floor.

An 11-0 run in the fourth quarter by the Bison did not do Midwestern State any favors. Jordan Mathis had perfect shooting going 5-for-5 for field goals and 4-for-4 from the line. The sophomore's 14 points was her best performance this season before fouling out with three minutes left in the game.

Sheridan Bostic knocked down two of her three 3s in the final minute of the game to post nine points.

Kalifa Ford was 8-for-12 from the field and tallied 19 points and eight boards to pace Oklahoma Baptist, while Sierra Copeland followed with 11 points and seven rebounds.

Midwestern State takes on Texas Wesleyan Sunday afternoon at D.L. Ligon Coliseum. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m.
