Midwestern State to host Mustangs Invitational Saturday at Lake Wichita Park

WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Midwestern State hosts the Mustangs Invitational Saturday morning at Lake Wichita Park.
 
The women's 5,000-meter race begins at 9 a.m. and follows the men's collegiate 8,000-meter event which begins at 8:15.

FIVE THINGS TO KNOW

1 |  Midwestern State hosts its 20th home meet since starting the program in 2005 Saturday morning at Lake Wichita Park. The Mustangs claimed wins in 14 of the 18 meets employing a team scoring system including the 2011 NCAA Division II South Central Region Championship ran at the former Hawk Ridge Golf Course.
 
2 |  Midwestern State returns to Lake Wichita Park for the fourth time in program history. The Mustangs' first meet at the venue featured a 6-mile relay as part of the Jerry's Scoreboard Mustangs Relays in 2008. Katie Stepp and Lindsey Pate teamed for a time of 35:52 to win by 45 seconds over teammates Kayla Hendrix and Kourtney Aylor. The Mustangs claimed wins in both meets at Lake Wichita Park in 2015. Midwestern piled up 19 points in the season opening 4K Strohman Dental MSU Stampede led by freshman Bridget Reilly (15:35.1/1st). Jasmine Stokes, Angela Dees, Kylee Gorney, Angela Powers and Maranda Rodriguez combined for a fourth-place finish later in the season at the 6K Midwestern State Invitational.
 
3 |  Midwestern State competes in its third meet of the season. The Mustangs finished runner-up in a seven-team field at the Cameron Aggie Duels. The last time out, MSU took 19th in a 26-team field at the Missouri Southern Stampede. The Mustangs will compete at the 5,000-meter distance for the third time this season.
 
4 |  Victoria Rosas claimed frontrunner honors for Midwestern State in each of its first two meets. The senior from Fort Worth claimed a runner-up finish in the Cameron Aggie Duels setting a 5K PR of 19:04.03. Rosas improved her 5K best to 18:53.86 a week later in the Missouri Southern Stampede finishing 77th overall. She has recorded team-countable finishes in nine of her 18 collegiate cross country meets.
 
5 |  Midwestern State's competition roster for Saturday meet consists of Alexandra Feller (20:20.01), Elizabeth Butzke (19:08.90), Victoria Rosas (19:04.03), Delaney Locke (19:31.20), Christyn Smith (19:00.25), Brayleigh McGill (19:50.40), Addilyn Keys (21:24.32), Presley Wall (19:47.90) and Nathalia Escontrias (21:26.19). (5,000-meter personal best time)
 
MIDWESTERN STATE COACH KELSEY BRUCE is in her first season at Midwestern State. She took over the reins of the MSU program during the spring semester after serving five seasons as an assistant at her alma mater -- Dallas Baptist. She was a four-time All American during collegiate career earning accolades in cross country in 2015, the steeplechase in 2014 and 2015 and the indoor 5,000-meter run in 2015. She also claimed four conference individual titles, while finishing amongst the top 10 in the United States Track & Field Road Championship on six occasions. Bruce remains active as one of the premiere distance runners in the country. She is a two-time Olympic Trials qualifier and represented Team USA in the 2019 IAAF World Championships. She also competed at the 2019 World Cross Country Championships and was the top American finisher in the Houston Marathon later that year.
