WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Sitting at first and second respectively, No. 7 Midwestern State and St. Mary's battle for the top spot in the Lone Star Conference on Wednesday, Oct. 27. Stang Park hosts the LSC showdown with start time of 5 p.m. To honor those who have served, Military Appreciation Day will be observed.

Trevor Amann pushes his point streak to seven straight matches after clinching an assist against UT Tyler (10/20) and a goal versus Texas A&M International (10/23). The senior tops the Mustangs with 26 points earning 14th in NCAA Division II in the process. He also leads the team and conference with 2.00 points per game, which earns 12th in the NCAA. Amann sits first in the LSC for 11 total goals (ranks 16th in DII), 1.85 shots on goal per game (20th in the NCAA), 4.54 shots per game (ranks third in Division II), 0.85 goals per game (16th in NCAA) and 4 game-winning goals (ranks 9th in DII). The forward leads MSU with 59 shots and landed a team-best 24 on target for a 0.407 shot on goal percent. For his career, the Westminster, Colo., native accumulated 23 goals and 9 assists for 55 points. In addition, he put up 134 attempts with 60 on goal and notched six game-winners in 2,712 minutes.
Alonso Rodriguez and former Mustang, Erwin Regular, each tallied five goals for St. Mary's. Regules connected two game winners while Rodriguez tops with 39 shots and 19 shots on goal.

Julian Barajas and
Carlos Flores have each tallied six assists to rank first in the Lone Star Conference and 35th in NCAA Division II. Their 0.46 assists per match also tops the LSC and lands 39th in DII. Barajas caught a goal and assist in MSU's wins over UT Tyler (10/20) and Texas A&M International (10/23) to gain LSC Offensive Player of the Week. In total, he completed four goals to reach 14 points to shoot a conference fifth best with 1.08 points per game. He also accumulated 14 shots with six of the tries landed on frame for the senior to gain a 0.429 shot on goal percent. He recorded game-winners at Oklahoma Christian (10/02) and versus UT Tyler (10/20). Flores registered five goals for 16 points on the season. The midfielder mad 15 shots with seven converting to shots on goal. Flores holds a 0.467 shot on goal percent and one game winning goal against Westminster (9/16).
Edu Bonatto and Deni Cresto both notched four assists for the Rattlers. Bonatto adds one goal for six points while Cresto puts two goals for eight points.

Marc-Antoine Huzen allowed just two goals in the Mustangs' two victories to land his second Lone Star Conference Goalkeeper of the Week award. The senior has 13 starts with 1,186 minutes between the posts. Overall, Huzen collects a LSC second best 0.91 goals against average and earns 39th in NCAA Division II. The keeper notched 33 saves to rank fifth in the conference while leading with seven shutouts. His impressive shutout collection sits fifth in Division II. Huzen faced over 100 shots and recorded a 0.733 save percent to lead the LSC and rank fifth in DII. He faced a season-high 21 shots against Oklahoma Christian (10/09) and made a season-high five saves versus Northeastern State (9/09). The goalkeeper is 12-1 on the season and 18-2-1 in his Mustangs career. In three years, the Parisian accumulated 45 saves versus 132 shots for a 0.738 save percent. His overall goals against average records at 0.77 while he maintains 12 shutouts.
Raul Guillamon-Bejar and Andre Schlaefli split time in goal to gain an 11-2 record for StMU. Schlaefli has 27 saves and a 0.52 GAA while Guillamon-Bejar recorded 19 saves and a 1.46 GAA.
4 | In the Mustangs' 12-1 season, the team leads the Lone Star Conference in nine statistical categories. MSU racked up a conference best 2.54 assists per game and earns 11th in NCAA Division II. In addition, the squad is first with 8.85 points per game, a fifth best ranking in DII. The Mustangs' scoring offense sits at 3.15 to lead the LSC and gain fourth in the nation. Huzen and the team collected a 0.538 shutout percent to gain 9th in the NCAA. The final four categories are: total assists (33) for 13th in NCAA Division II, total goals (41) for 11th in the NCAA, total points (115) sits 11th in the nation and won-loss-tied percent (0.923) gets sixth in DII.
5 | In the most recent release of the United Soccer Coaches College Rankings, Midwestern State kept their No. 7 spot in the polls. In the first poll of the season, the Mustangs claimed the 23rd spot and quickly moved up the ranks from there. With defeats over No. 25 Northeastern State and No. 9 Rogers State, MSU were selected to No. 18 for the second poll of 2021. The team continued the climb after claiming victories against Westminster and No. 19 Simon Fraser in the MSU Classic. After dropping to No. 3 West Texas A&M (9/22), Midwestern State fell to the twelfth spot and picked up to 11 with wins over Lubbock Christian (9/29) and Oklahoma Christian (10/02). With a defeat over Oklahoma Christian in the first conference match, MSU broke the top ten of the polls for the first time this season. Subsequent victories against Lubbock Christian (10/16), UT Tyler (10/20) and Texas A&M International (10/23) led to the seventh rank. The full rankings are listed below.

HEAD COACH MICHAEL MEACHUM is in the midst of his fourth season as head coach at Midwestern State and his 10th overall in Wichita Falls. He served the first seven years as top assistant for Doug Elder. During that time, Meachum helped the Mustangs reach two NCAA Division II South Central Region finals and to the national quarterfinals. Meachum boasts a 51-10-4 record (.815) since taking the reins of the program prior to the 2018 season. He has led the Mustangs to the 2018 Heartland Conference title, the 2019 Lone Star Conference postseason tournament crown and to two NCAA Division II postseason appearances in 2018 and 2019. Prior to MSU, Meachum served as an assistant at NAIA Bethany College (Kan.) and Hastings (Neb.), at Division I Oral Roberts and Division II Northeastern State.
SERIES WITH THE RATTLERS
In 35 matches, Midwestern State took home wins in 32 game and dropped only three. Up until 2019, the Mustangs held a 30 match win streak against St. Mary's. In Lone Star Conference play, MSU holds a 6-2 advantage and a 16-1 record at Stang Park. The two teams last faced off in the 2020 LSC Tournament semifinals on April 10, 2021. The Mustangs grabbed a 2-0 victory over the No. 18 Rattlers to move on to the finals. During the regular season of the same year, No. 10 StMU gained a 2-0 win in San Antonio, Texas.
