DENTON, Texas -- Lissette Lefforge and
Lauryn Bourne popped off offensively for Midwestern State in their very closely match five-set loss to Texas Woman's. The Mustangs went 2-3 (21-25, 25-16, 26-24, 25-27, 11-15) in the match and sit at 3-11 on the season.

"It was a hard fought five setter on the road with Lefforge coming in and doing a nice job against the middles on the offense and blocking on the defensive side," said Head Coach
Valerie Armstrong.

MSU saw twelve kills and one ace for 21 points in set one. Lefforge connected a career-high 21 kills to lead both squads and added a .439 hitting percent. The senior grabbed two blocks and one service ace for 23.5 points on the night.

TWU made 16 kills and had only one attack error on the set. Isabel Vega Calderon made 19 kills on 50 attempts for 20 points.

"DeWalt and Bourne held down the defense on the back row and completed great passes," said Armstrong.
Â
Midwestern State fought hard to bring home the second set, completing 13 kills with Bourne grabbing five. The sophomore totaled 15 smashes and 21 digs for a double-double on the night. Bourne added two service aces and three blocks to her impressive stat list.

Texas Woman's was held to only seven kills and two aces in the set. Bailey Wozniak gained all three aces for the Pioneers for the match.

The Mustangs upped their offensive threat in set number three to put down 18 smack downs and two service aces.
Alex Serna dropped three kills and a solo block to help push MSU ahead. The freshman tallied nine kills in 25 attacks and completed two blocks.

TWU pushed 11 kills for their 24 points in the third set. Yanely Pabon led both teams with 28 digs.

"We had our chances in the fourth set and we will learn from this and use it to prepare for next week," said Armstrong.

The fourth set saw 13 kills from the visitors and three service aces.
Autumn Roach launched 29 assists and had one ace. The Pioneers knocked down 19 kills with Trixie Oche and Monica Wood registering six blocks each for the home side.

In the final set, each team collected seven kills but two attack errors and one service error hurt the Mustangs chances.

Midwestern State returns to D.L. Ligon Coliseum on Oct. 8, to take on Texas A&M-Commerce in a Lone Star Conference match. The first serve is set for 6 p.m. for the Mustangs.
