WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Coming off a big 5-1 defeat over UT Permian Basin, Midwestern State (6-2-3, 3-0-3 LSC) turns its sights to the big Lone Star Conference match against No. 10 Dallas Baptist (10-2, 6-1 LSC). The Mustangs and the Patriots take battle at Stang Park on Saturday, Oct. 16. Kick-off is set for 5 p.m.

Cassidy Savoy is back to the top of the Mustangs scoreboard with four tallies and two assists for ten points. The sophomore conducted a brace plus a helper in the team's 5-1 defeat over UT Permian Basin (10/13) and added a two-goal match against Northwestern Oklahoma State (9/02). Her second goal at NWOKS notched her only game-winner of the season. Savoy has 23 shots and has put ten on target for a 0.435 shot on goal percent. The forward has made six starts in ten games to total 559 minutes for the Mustangs. On her career, Savoy notched 27 shots with 12 on goal in 767 minutes.
Abigail Olmos is one of the leading scorers for Dallas Baptist, tallying seven goals and four assists for 18 points. The graduate senior posted 20 shots with eight landing on frame and landed one game winner in 12 starts.

Randi Heaton sits close behind Savoy with four goals to her name for the 2021 season. The midfielder has two game-winners in the team's overtime victories over East Central (9/18) and St. Mary's (10/02). Against the Tigers, Heaton notched her goal in the last 18 seconds to play while claiming the game-winner at StMU in the first four minutes of OT. The senior recorded her first goal in Midwestern State's 3-1 win over Regis (9/12) and the last one against Texas A&M International (10/09). Overall, Heaton's nine shots turned into eight on frame for a 0.889 shot on goal percent. In the current season, the Westminster, Colo. native recorded almost 800 minutes in 11 matches with ten starts. For her career at Midwestern State, Heaton registered five goals and one assist for 11 points. Her career shots lies at 29 with 18 landing on goal in her 4,007 minutes of play.
Delaney Schmidt also has seven goals and four helpers for DBU. The fifth year senior notched 28 shots with 19 on goal for a 0.679 shot on goal percent.

Taylor Camp keeps her reign between the goalposts. The senior's 0.881 save percent sits first in the LSC while gaining a fourth best 59 saves. Camp's eight goals against are fourth lowest in the conference while her 0.704 goals against average is third best. The Waxahachie, Texas native recorded a career-high ten stops against East Central (9/18) to help the Mustangs to a double overtime victory and notched nine saves in the next match against St. Edward's (9/25). In 1,810 career minutes as a Mustang, Camp notches a 1.29 GAA and sits at 99 saves in 129 shots faced. She adds a 0.792 save percent and a 8-9-3 record with six shutouts.
Hailey Brown has eight starts on the year to post 765 minutes. The sophomore registered a 0.82 GAA and allowed seven goals thus far. Brown has 26 saves under her belt for a 7-2 record.

Lexi Beck is the top shooter for Midwestern State, earning a Lone Star Conference fourth-highest 34 shots. Her average of 3.09 per game sits fifth in the conference. Beck collected 19 shots on frame to earn fourth in the LSC while gaining 1.73 per game to sit fifth. The freshman tallied two goals and two assists on the season for six points. She notched the game winning goal against Northwestern Oklahoma State (9/02) for her first collegiate points. Versus Eastern New Mexico (9/29), Beck went for a goal and added an assist. Her second helper of the year was on
Kelly Cannistra's tally against Texas A&M International (10/09). In eleven starts for the Mustangs, the midfielder posted a 0.559 shot on goal percent.
Sophomore Ashley Merrill has collected six goals on the season and tops the Patriots with 31 shots. Of the 31, 14 have been on target for a 0.452 shot on goal percent. Merrill obtained three game winners in 833 minutes.
5 | Eleven matches into the 18 game regular season, MSU has counted 19 goals, overtaking their total (11) from the ten-match 2020 season. The team is close to passing their goal count from the 2019 season, where they totaled 21 goals in 18 contests. Midwestern State has collected their best record since the 2017 season. In their first nine matches, the Mustangs have played to five wins, two drops and three draws for a .650 winning percent. In 2017, the team went 11-8-1 overall and 6-2 in the first eight games for a 0.75 win percentage. That same year, MSU made it to the quarterfinals of the Lone Star Conference post-season tournament and went on to the first round of the NCAA Division II South Central Regional.
HEAD COACH RYAN SPENCE begins his fourth season as head coach at his alma mater. In the 2020 season, he led the Mustangs to the quarterfinals of the Lone Star Conference Tournament. As a player, Spence helped the Mustangs dominate in his four years on the field. He earned All-American from 2008-11 and helped the team reach the Final Four in 2010. His center back prowess assisted in gaining 35 shutouts in his tenure. After graduating with a bachelor's degree, he gained his masters from MSU in 2014-15. From there, Spence moved on as assistant coach at Texas A&M International in 2016 and head coach at Eastern New Mexico in 2017 before coming back to Midwestern State in 2018.
SERIES WITH THE PATRIOTS
Midwestern State owns a 7-3 advantage in the series against Dallas Baptist. From 1999 to 2006, the Mustangs grabbed seven straight defeats over the Patriots. With the Heartland Conference and Lone Star Conference merger in 2019, the two teams became conference foes. That same year, No. 19 DBU took home their first win over MSU and repeated the feat in the 2020 season. Midwestern State and Dallas Baptist last faced-off in the 2020 LSC Tournament where No. 1 DBU knocked the Mustangs out of the tournament in a 4-1 victory.
