ODESSA, Texas -- Alex Serna found her second big match of the year to lead Midwestern State with 10 points in its 3-0 loss to UT Permian Basin 15-25, 22-25, 26-28) Thursday night at Falcon Dome.
The Mustangs fell to 3-14 overall and to 1-8 in Lone Star Conference play.
"We played hard the second and third sets with chances to win," said Head Coach 
Valerie Armstrong. "Serna did a nice job opening up the middle and scoring some points."
Serna collected nine kills and two blocks and added a 0.529 kill percent. The middle blocker earned 70 put downs for the season with 19 blocks. 
Lauryn Bourne also notched nine smashes against the Falcons. The sophomore almost reached a double-double with a team-high 11 digs for 9.5 total points. Bourne continues to top MSU with 173 kills on the year in 573 attacks.
Close to Serna and Bourne on the boards were 
Taylor Anderson and 
Kelli Ell with eight kills. Anderson grabbed her best attack percent of the season, going 8 of 16 for a 0.438 percentage. The senior adds a block to her stats facing UTPB. Ell tied her season-high hits that she gained against Arkansas Tech (9/11). The freshman totaled 21 attempts on the night.
Autumn Roach and Reagan Willms were equal with 16 assists each. Roach totals 342 helpers for the year to lead MSU and gained four digs in the Thursday night match. Willms sits at 241 assists and put up five passes versus UT Permian Basin.
Madison Becker and 
Amy DeWalt held down the back line for Midwestern State, combining for 16 digs. Becker landed seven passes to catch 84 for her full freshman year. DeWalt put forth nine digs to accumulate a team-best 250 overall. 
Alyssa Estrada-Hamby pushed three blocks, her best performance since Angelo State (9/24). The sophomore contributed two kills as well.
Aquincia Strambler topped UTPB with 14 kills in 36 attacks. Analise Lucio gathered 37 assists and 13 digs while Taurie Magee made five blocks for the home side.
As a team, MSU landed 39 kills in 110 attacks for a 0.173 hitting percent. The Mustangs had 37 set assists with only three errors. On defense, the team registered 41 digs and six blocks against the Falcons. UT Permian Basin made 49 kills in 117 attempts for a 0.299 hitting percent. The team tallied nine setting errors, but gained 43 assists. UTPB landed four service aces and seven blocks on the night.
"We will regroup and get back after it Saturday at Western," said Armstrong.
Midwestern State continues their road trip to Silver City, N.M. to take on Western New Mexico. The Lone Star Conference match kicks off on Saturday, Oct. 16 at 1 p.m.
