Reynolds, Diaz return to help Mustangs win fourth straight in 67-51 at TWU

DENTON, Texas – Stop me if you read this lately.

Midwestern State used a quick start Friday night, then rolled to its fourth straight win beating Texas Woman's – 67-51 – at Kitty Magee Arena.

"Any time you can get a fast start, you set the tone for the whole game," MSU coach Christopher Reay said. "It makes them play catch-up the rest of the game. It was our defensive intensity that I was pleased with from the start of the game."

It was the fourth consecutive win for Midwestern State which improved to 6-2 on the season and 5-2 in Lone Star Conference play.

Despite the return of seniors Hannah Reynolds and Kityana Diaz, the Mustangs stuck with the corps of starters who contributed to their recent run of success. The duo came off of the bench to combine for 22 points with 12 coming from Reynolds and 10 from Diaz.

"Every game will be different," Reay said. "Both were coming off of injury. I felt like the starting group was playing well, so I wanted them to keep their rhythm. With this group, it doesn't matter what the roles are. They just want to win games."

It was the starters who were primarily responsible for the Mustangs sprinting out to a 20-4 edge at the end of the first period. MSU led by as many as 22 in the second half.

Senior Morgan Lenahan buried three 3-pointers in the third period and finished with a team-high 13 points, while sophomore Frances King chipped in eight points and four assists.

The Mustangs improved to 9-1 since Reay took over as coach last season when controlling an edge on the glass. MSU grabbed 40 to 32 for TWU.

Sadie Moyer and Scout Huffman scored 16 points to lead the Pioneers, who fell to 0-2 on the season.

Midwestern State and Texas Woman's play the rematch of the Lone Star Conference crossover series Saturday afternoon at Kitty Magee Arena. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m.
