Bostic, Mustangs bury Patriots in record setting performance

WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Sheridan Bostic's sensational breakout performance was simply record setting Friday night D.L. Ligon Coliseum.

The sophomore from Pflugerville matched a program record with seven 3-pointers to help the Mustangs bury UT Tyler -- 82-49 -- to extend their home court winning streak to six games.

"You become a really good 3-point shooting team when you have one player hit seven," MSU coach Christopher Reay said. "We've been working a lot in practice and changed our warm-ups. We need to be able to be a threat inside and out."

Bostic paced the Mustangs with a career-high 23 points on 7-of-14 shooting. She was 7-of-12 from the arc to match the school record previously accomplished by Mica Schneider (2/13/20), Andrea Buben (1/14/09), Heather O'Neal (1/30/99) and Trish Young (1/30/92).

Shawnisay Millar, Frances King and Morgan Lenahan connected on two 3-pointers, while Haevyn Risley and Eternity Jackson also canned triples to account for a program team record of 15. That bettered the mark of 14 made 3-pointers set on Jan. 30, 1999 at Tarleton State.

The Mustangs extended the advantage to 20 points in the second period and led by as many as 37 in the second half to improve to 4-2 on the season.

King delivered a 20-point performance of the season going 7-for-10 from the field. She added five rebounds and five assists.

Millar pitched in 11 points, while Lenahan threatened a triple double with eight points, eight rebounds and seven assists.

Freshman forward Brittney Field had a career high eight points and five rebounds in her first collegiate start, while reigning LSC Defensive Player of the Week Haevyn Risley had seven points and 11 rebounds to go with a career-best five blocked shots.

"Haevyn is really our catalyst. When we need runs and stops, she's the energizer bunny that's the anchor on the back line," Reay said.

Senior guard Kelsey Crouse paced UT Tyler with 15 points as the Patriots fell to 0-5.

Midwestern State faces UT Tyler in a rematch Saturday afternoon at D.L. Ligon Coliseum. Tipoff is set for 3:30 p.m.
