Seventh heaven: Mustangs win 7-0 again

MSU Texas goes 2-0 on Friday with consecutive shutouts

WICHITA FALLS, Texas – In her first career appearance at the number one singles spot, Ashley Ramirez delivered a 6-2, 6-4 win. It was one of six singles wins on the day for No. 15 Midwestern State in a 7-0 thrashing of Colorado State-Pueblo on Friday afternoon at the MSU Tennis Center.

"You always have to expect that they are going to play good games and make good shots at every spot," Ashley Ramirez said.

With her team already leading 4-0, Ramirez displayed a strong forehand and great net presence to down Kali Hamilton.

"I think it was all about fighting and staying in the point," Ramirez said.

Emilija Segetlija opened singles play with an injury shortened win at No. 4 before Emilija Visic blanked Tilly Blasdale at number two, 6-0, 6-0. Juliette Mary followed with a straight set win against Sarah Megilligan on the number three line before Ramirez claimed the top line win.

"Ashley (Ramirez) is a fantastic student-athlete," Linn said. "It's a win for everybody when someone like Ashley gets an opportunity to play at the top spot. It isn't just a win for her, it's a win for the program."

Taylor Gray cruised past Roma Cordova at No. 5, 6-0, 6-0 and Emily Ineson stepped into the lineup at No. 6 and delivered a 6-0, 6-1 victory against Marissa Sena.

The Mustangs swept the doubles point behind the stellar play of Ramirez/Gray. The duo opened the match with a 6-0 win at the top flight and the number three pairing of Mary/Segetlija quickly followed suit with a 6-0 win of their own to clinch the point.

"This is as composed as we have been in a while," Linn said. "We are headed in the right direction."
