Season ends with loss to Angelo State in LSC Postseason Tournament

Mustangs fall 81-70 in First Round

SAN ANGELO, Texas - De'Anira Moore has tormented opposing teams all season long. On Tuesday night, she victimized 11th seeded Midwestern State to the tune of 28 points and nine rebounds to lift sixth seeded Angelo State to an 81-70 win inside Stephens Arena in the First Round of the Lone Star Conference Postseason Tournament.

"She's all conference and maybe the player of the year," Midwestern State interim head coach Christopher Reay said. "We did decent defensively, but couldn't string together stops late. We looked stone-footed and couldn't contain the drive in the second half."

Moore scored 13 of her game-high 28 points in the first half to help ASU to a 33-30 halftime lead. The senior finished with six blocks.

Midwestern State fell behind by eight early in the third quarter, before a 6-0 spurt, started by a Hannah Reynolds jumper, closed the deficit to 42-40 with 4:54 remaining. Reynolds finished with 15 points and seven rebounds.

After Angelo State pushed the lead to seven, Mica Schneider drilled one of her three third quarter triples. Schneider, in her final collegiate game, finished with 14 points and five rebounds.

"This is the hardest part of the season right now," Reay said. "The seniors fought hard, they are coachable, and they are extremely good student-athletes."

ASU led by seven after three quarters and pulled away late, pushing their lead to 16 with 4:44 remaining. The Mustangs used a 14-5 run to make things interesting, cutting the deficit to seven at 77-70.

"I'm extremely proud of this squad," Reay said. "I expected them to fight until the final buzzer and they did."

The Belles went a perfect 4-of-4 from the free throw line in the closing seconds to seal the win.

Kityana Diaz poured in 14 points on 6-of-9 shooting. The junior came away with three steals.

Midwestern State bids farewell to seniors Schneider, Elizabeth Cathcart, Courtney Kerr, and Erin Alexander.

The Mustangs end the 2019-2020 campaign 11-16 (9-13). The Belles advance to the quarterfinal round and a meeting with third seeded Lubbock Christian on Thursday.
