SEARCY, Ark. - Right-hander Olivia Burns tossed a six hit shutout to lead Delta State (Miss.) to a 5-0 win over Midwestern State on Saturday afternoon at the Harding Invitational held at the HU Softball Complex.
Burns (1-2) walked one and struck out four. The junior needed just 77 pitches to go the distance.
Delta State broke a scoreless game in the fourth inning on an error with the bases loaded. Later in the inning, with the bases still loaded, Olivia Dick drew a four pitch walk to make it 2-0.
The Lady Statesmen added a run in the fifth and two more in the seventh.Â
Lauren Lindgren extended her hitting streak to start the season to seven games with a sixth inning single. The senior is hitting .440.
Ashley Turner went 1-for-2 at the plate and is now hitting a team best .458.
Marley Eller finished 1-for-3.
Kathryn Wells dropped to 0-2 after allowing five runs (four earned) in seven innings. Wells walked three and struck out two.
MSU Texas plays their first home games of the season when they host the MSU Texas Invitational starting on Friday. The Mustangs will take on Nebraska-Kearney at 11 a.m and Northwestern Oklahoma State at 1 p.m.
