ODESSA, Texas. – The Mustangs battle UT Permian Basin on Sunday in a Lone Star Conference doubleheader. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT
Lauren Lindgren recorded her seventh multi-hit game of the season and knocked in two runs, but Western New Mexico erased an early 3-0 deficit and then held on late to hand Midwestern State a 7-6 loss on Friday afternoon in game one of a twin bill at the WNMU Softball Field. Lindgren jumpstarted Midwestern State's offense in the top of the first, lining a two-run double to left center before scoring on a wild pitch. The senior finished 2-for-3 with two doubles, two runs scored, and two RBI. After scoring a run in the bottom of the first, Western New Mexico took their first lead of the contest with a three-run second inning. Samantha Corral drove in two with a double to even the score. Two batters later, Alicia Habitzreuther's RBI single pushed WNMU in front, 4-3. MSU Texas tied the game at 4-4 in the third when
Carson Solis reached on a fielder's choice. Solis finished 0-for-2 with two walks and an RBI, but saw her season best eight-game hitting streak snapped. Western New Mexico broke the tie in the bottom of the fourth on an error, then scored twice more in the fifth to push the lead to 7-4. The Maroon and Gold plated two unearned runs in the sixth but
Bailey Brenek struck out looking with the tying run on second to end the inning. In the seventh, MSU Texas threatened, putting runners at first and second with one out before Jalyn McClain retired
Caycee Griffin and
Brooke Taylor to end the game. McClain (4-3) went the distance for WNMU.
Western New Mexico erupted for eight runs in the bottom of the first and never looked back in a 16-2 five inning run rule victory over visiting Midwestern State on Friday afternoon at the WNMU Softball Field. The win completed a doubleheader sweep for WNMU. After Midwestern State's
Bailey Brenek ripped a two-run single in the top of the first, Western New Mexico sent 12 batters to the plate in the bottom of the frame. Alicia Habitzreuther's two-run home run highlighted the eight-run frame. WNMU used the long ball again in the second. Grisdey Paredes-Alvarez drilled a solo blast and later in the inning, Nikki Medina connected for a three run shot to push the lead to 12-2. Aliehs Ortiz's blast in the third, the Mustangs' fourth long ball of the game, gave Western New Mexico a 13-2 advantage. They added two more runs in the fourth.
