Central Oklahoma rides long ball to victory

Bronchos swat four home runs in 9-2 win

EDMOND, Okla. – Central Oklahoma's Amelya Huggins and Aleah Bozarth each went deep twice to lift the Bronchos to a 9-2 win over visiting Midwestern State on Friday night at the Broncho Softball Stadium.

After Midwestern State came up empty in the top of the first despite putting runners at second and third with no outs, Huggins belted a three-run home run in the bottom of the inning to hand UCO an early lead.

Aleah Bozarth's two-run blast in the second made it 5-0 in favor of the Bronchos.

Midwestern State scored their lone runs of the game in the fourth. Marley Eller and Kelsey Eropkin each delivered run scoring singles to cut the deficit to 5-2. Representing the tying run with two outs, Anna Williams grounded out to end the inning.

Huggins went deep again in the fifth, a two-run shot to straightaway centerfield that gave the Bronchos a 7-2 lead.

Not to be outdone by her teammate, Bozarth connected for her second home run of the game in the sixth, a solo shot that made it 8-2. UCO added another run in the inning on an Allie Eicher RBI single.

Hours after earning her first save of the season, Jacey Henry started in the circle for the Mustangs. Henry (1-4) suffered the loss after allowing five runs in two innings.

MSU Texas continues play at the Edmond Regional Festival III on Saturday with a pair of games. The Mustangs take on Pittsburg State (Kan.) at 10 a.m. before battling Fort Hays State (Kan.) at 12 p.m.
